      I don’t know if the update has released to the public yet but the desktop app on mine has been acting annoyingly

      *The new WhatsApp for Windows 11 is just a Chromium-based web wrapper that performs terribly, using far more RAM and CPU than the older UWP app. The previous native version was much faster and lighter, but Meta switched to the web wrapper mainly to cut development costs.*

      **My opinion:**

      Honestly, this update is a downgrade. Turning WhatsApp into a glorified web page ruined its performance, especially on weaker PCs. Meta clearly chose saving money over giving users a smooth and optimized Windows experience.

      The thing is, there’s nothing wrong with the web one in the first place. I run it on Firefox and it uses between 0.1 and 0.3% of the CPU. They had to make several bad choices to make it work this poorly in their „desktop“ version.

      This just reminds me of Discord’s call background (a single gradient) pushing it to 30%+ GPU usage for some people, completely gone the moment they just click on a different channel.

      Maybe the bright side of recent RAM price increases is that devs will be forced to optimize their crap, because people simply won’t be able to afford RAM anymore… /s

      Whoever thought of sacrificing performance for faster startup times, and therefore consuming more memory and CPU, should go see a doctor. What’s the point of keeping a comprehensive small thread running in the background while we only need to write and communicate?

      my laptop 15 years old, use zapzap now for whatsap work with no issues on mint , new windows soon will need entire data hall to run the system

      A lot of these new Windows apps feel rushed. A web wrapper solves nothing. It loads slow, eats resources, and feels worse than the older version. People want a stable desktop app. Not another browser tab pretending to be one.
