Fertility rates in Central African Republic and DR Kongo are both above 6 children per woman. Both 90%+ Christian countries, since it’s important for some reason.

What is with this photo, that is always posted as “gotcha“ to muslims. It just shows that the nigerian government over the years never bothered to improve and urbanize the north. And btw North Africa has the lowest fertility rate in the whole of africa. all north african countries if they were counted as a nigerian state would have the lowest tfr and it is the most islamic region in the whole of africa

Unless the South, the North saw little modernization during colonial times and the traditional elite still remains quite powerful. Many parts even feel feudal. That’s the better corelation, not Sharia law.
A reminder that even though much of Subsaharan African still has a very high fertility rate, like basically everyone else in the world, it is still declining, and will likely continue to decline as the continent continues to develop.

[State-level HDI](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nigerian_states_by_Human_Development_Index) seems to correlate better with fertility rate than adoption of Sharia, particularly in the eastern states.
