Damn, blows my mind every time. Tokyo legit has more folks than Canada!? Either Tokyo’s overpacked or Canada’s just a big chill spot with tons of moose.

I’m always kind of amazed by how small most countries actually are population-wise.

In general World’s biggest city really depends on the definition.

This shows just how empty Canada and Australia truly are. Even Java as a whole, which contains quite a bit of uninhabitable volcanoes, has clear empty spaces despite being insanely densely populated overall. Can you envision how empty it is to drive anywhere above the small area where 90% of Canadians live?

Been to Jakarta, it’s an interesting place.
Their commuter trains on peak hours – imagine a LIRR train with 12 carriages, the train comes every 1-2 minutes and all 12 cars are packed to the brim!
In downtown there are 2 stations that are just next to one another and during peak hours they have to close one of the station and ask passengers to use adjacent station instead.
Wealth inequality is massive. You have slums on one side of the road, and right across the road is a luxurious neighbourhood with barbed wires, high walls, and armed guards with rifles!
The same bowl of bakso (Indonesian meatball) can have 10-20 times price difference across different areas within the same city.
However, their service staff have one of the best hospitality. You may have seen on the internet on Japanese service staff that bows and smiles at you and their service attitude, well, Indonesian hospitality is the same and can even beat than the Japanese!
When you take an intercity train out of Jakarta, all the station staff, security, police, janitors, etc. line up and salute/bow at everyone in the train as the train pulls out.

If Java island where Jakarta resides is its own country, it would be in the top 10 in terms of population
