You don’t see the benefit of the current situation where all of mainland western Europe (except for Portugal) are in the same timezone?

Ireland/UK

All these pairs of countries do an insane amount of business together and benefit more from aligned clocks than some supposed accuracy with the sun

Ireland’s population is mainly in the yellow zone, along with its only land border. Why would it bother going into the green zone?

Putting the Netherlands in a seperate timezone from Germany seems like a terrible idea

Ireland should definitely be yellow so it’s the same at NI, and so should Portugal.

Like the last time this was posted, it does make sense for Portugal and Ireland to be UTC 0, especially Ireland, since their capital and largest city is actually in that Zone.
Archoncy on
Absolute bollocks to put the majority of Ireland’s population, who live inside the western fringe of UTC±0 on this map, in another timezone, separating them from Northern Ireland to boot, probably violating the Good Friday agreement.
Also separating Portugal away is equally stupid. Just let it stay in its current time zone of UTC±0.
Otherwise yeah this makes sense, but would be better with +1 to each timezone for permanent summer time to balance out the fact that we are in the hellish far north and every moment of sunlight in winter not wasted sitting at work in the morning is a blessing.

The Netherlands is not gonna change time with Germany.
Rotterdam harbour and the Ruhr area are too interconnected for that.

Why in gods green dick would Ireland and Portugal not want to be in the same time zone as the rest of Europe? It’s such a waste of time.

People in Spain like sunny evenings. Weather is good for most of the year and we like to benefit from natural sunlight. So let’s keep the current situation, or at the very least stay at summer time.

It makes no sense for Greece to be in UTC+1. Same for Ireland in UTC-1. Over 50% of the population of both countries live in the UTC +2 and UTC respectively.

Better to have UTC+2 giving with evening sun for outdoor activities instead of UTC+1 with 5 AM sunrise during summers.

A 1+ or -1 hour change for most european countries to have the same timezone is extremely beneficial as it is now, this proposition would be horrendous in practice.
I would simply make a „continental“ timezone based on UTC+1 for all countries west of Russia (including the British isles & Mainland Portugal) and call it a day.

It’s probably just a mistake, but the Aegean islands being in a different timezone compared to the greek mainland doesn’t make much sense. In any case, I think Greece would be better off in the red zone.

Ireland is wrong. Western Ireland is less populated than the East.
