I don’t understand why so many people act as if Trump is oblivious and Witkoff acted on his own volition, Witkoff is clearly doing what Trump wants him to do othwerwise he wouldn’t hold that kind of position.

Whenever any foreign (to the US) leader compliments the prez it’s not because they like him or agree with him (probably)…it’s because they know it works to get their way.
I am turning insane in here people Witkoffs literal job description is to talk to the Russians. HE IS A DIPLOMAT. We lived through all these mental times of the Joe Biden presidency (and all eu leaders pretty much) kept insisting to not even have a low level white house stuffer pick up the phone with Russia and now we are living the epitome of such insanity; diplomats getting labeled as traitors for negotiating during a peace process.
Like you can agree or disagree with the terms or whatever but the war is only going to end with someone like Steve Witkoff (who knows maybe even a European if we feel some fucking shame for once and do something) and their Russian counterpart, pick up the phone and TALK.
Too many discussions of Trump and Witkoff, and too few discussions of Russians who once again prove they don’t want peace. It must be a very rare coincidence that once there’s a realistic peace plan based on compromise acceptable for Ukraine, US, Europe (and probably China), but not matching 100% Russia’s maximalist demands, a leak that distracts everyone from the Russia-Ukraine war appears the next day.
