    1. Do Latam countries have some kind of NATO? That could be useful if they’re on the same page about bombing the boats of alleged narcos, invasion threats and such.

    2. Nothing new on earth, murderous petrodollar mobsters just „taking care of national security“ like it’s another monday. I’m honestly willing to bet that all those attack on boats were either fishermen or upperclass venezuelans who refuse to give americans oil for free.

    3. No sh*t Sherlock.
If it was drugs they would attack Mexico, Colombia or Afghanistan.

We have more oil than anyone but I guess greed requires you steal everyone else’s oil before you use your own.

    5. I have to disagree. I believe this has everything to do with Trump appearing tough on drugs, crime, and immigration. The United States has been a net exporter of oil since 2020. There isn’t really any compelling reason to go after Venezuelan oil fields.

However, Trump has a laundry list of issues here at home and he was elected to be tough on drugs, crime, and immigration. These boat strikes are a performative way to fulfill his campaign promises while simultaneously risking nothing that he values.

Additionally, US presidents have a history of picking fights/getting involved in fights abroad when they are having issues domestically. Bill Clinton did this in Kosovo shortly after the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke.

Maduro has a vested interest in simplifying this down to just the US is going to war for oil again. The messaging from his perspective is clean, simple, and fits a well worn narrative.

Anyway feel free to downvote now reddit hive mind.

    6. What does the Venezuelan population think of this?

Edit: No answer? Just downvotes? Do we not care what Venezuelans think about this whole thing?

    7. as a Colombian and know a lot of Venezuelans, we all celebrate that Trump is actually doing something against Maduro and against this GUERRILLA TERRORIST, Petro, who has killed, raped, kidnapped and violated minors. Everything that he says and every time he’s speaking in public, he’s drunk and full of cocaine, it’s embarrassing. this POS doesn’t represent us.

    8. No shit. Rape kids, rape planet.

I understand the vision of this administration.

Is sad when every other world leader, dictator or not, is more credible that the US in virtually any aspect these days.

    11. Either it is drug or the oil. Guyana also have a lot of oil, but they are not targeted. The fact is Maduro did not deliver on his promise to run free and fair election. This is probably not a good reason to shot random boat event if you suspect them to carrying drug.

I wonder what kinda deal are we talking. Maduro avoid war in exchange for oil? Or maybe American company can invest in Colombia oil field. Anyway that would be a hard sell to the American peoples.

    12. Wrong. The point is to take attention away from Trump’s involvement with minors and Epstein, which is succeding judging by the comments here

    13. They have large reserves but those reserves are sour oil.

We have more sweet crude in the US than we will need for a lifetime. Especially now that we are past peak crude.

If anything it’s about diplomatic dominance in South America.

It’s actually just Trump’s ego at the center of it. He couldn’t get Greenland or Canada so now he’s gotta settle for this.
