tldr; Rep. Warren Davidson introduced the ‚Bitcoin for America Act,‘ allowing Americans to pay federal taxes in Bitcoin, which would be added to a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. The bill aims to modernize financial systems, diversify national wealth into a non-inflationary asset, and position the U.S. as a leader in digital innovation. It proposes a voluntary, market-driven approach to Bitcoin accumulation, potentially creating a reserve of over 2.6 million BTC by 2030 if 1% of taxes are paid in Bitcoin.

Why go to all this trouble? Just buy Bitcoin if you want a reserve.
Whatever currency a government accepts for tax payments is now a national currency. This is because to pay the tax you must buy that currency somehow ( wages, goods etc..).
This would be the death of the dollar and consequently the death of all monetary policy’s ability to relieve unemployment or reduce high demand side inflation
Stop trying to make fetch happen, Gretchen
Fiat 2.0.
I question the legality of this.
Taxes are supposed to go to the Treasury.
When did Congress people get dumber than the average person?
Hard to grow a reserve when you’re running a deficit. They would either have to print even more dollars or pay bills with the bitcoin which would make building a reserve impossible..
people rag on the government but they do provide a lot service that people use and rely on everyday. it’s not 100% waste. taking money from that to gamble of token price appreciation is a misstep to say the least imo.
