    1. Interesting map. The second slide about how Latinos „face less culture clash than North African counterparts“ seems unnecessary. Especially given the recent rhetoric from Spanish right-wing parties.

    2. This is naturalization in Spain. Migration is obviously higher, and this chart doesn’t account for differences between naturalization rates (i.e one country’s citizens being more likely to naturalize than another’s, for whatever reason)

    3. Interesting how modern culture influences the rate of people seeking citizenship. For example Brazil received the third largest amount of Spanish immigrants, but there’s fewer people seeking Spanish citizenship from there than from its neighbors. Likely because of assimilation and Spanish ancestry not being as socially prestigious as ancestry from other places like Portugal or Italy in Brazil.

I’m very curious about how true that second slide is. Obviously most people from Hispanoamerican countries have at least some Spanish admixture, so it would make sense for Spain to be more accepting of them. But what about someone that is about half indigenous American rather than almost fully Spanish? Or half Black?

    5. Doesn’t Spain have a law that anyone who is from their former colonies can get their citizenship in two years? MAANNNEEEE why didn’t my parents immigrate to Spain instead? 😭

Spain is in an advantageous position in the aging population scenario. It can continue filling the country with people who share a similar culture, without a language barrier.

If Europe, not only Spain, is needing cheap and young manual labor and workers why not take latin Americans instead of Muslims. It is going to be way more beneficial for Europe exactly for the reasons explained in the second card.

They are going to love your parties, your culture, your beer and pork, are going to celebrate Christmas with you and not blow-up a Christmas market, instead are going to show how a nativity scene is actually made!

The worst thing that could happen is that they like Borussia Dortmund instead of Bayern or Barcelona instead of Madrid or something like that.

I totally get wanting more immigrants. Especially when Latin American countries a decent amount in common with Spain.

Why use that good thing to bash Muslims? Muslims by and large are like any other person I’ve ever met

Fun fact: Inmigratiom from SA has caused Jewish population in Spain to double in the last 25 years. While still a minority (45K approx), I think it’s an interesting side effect.

Latin America is the easiest solution to demographic woes of Spain, Portugal and (to a lesser degree) Italy – Common language, very similar culture and religion

Mostly from the Andean countries and the Antilles. It’s the same pattern here in Canada and elsewhere except for the U.S.

The Venezuelan exodus is so insane, this doesn’t even reflect the millions who tried to come to the US.

A total and complete brain drain of their middle/upper class, Maduro and his regime have destroyed Venezuela despite it’s abundance of natural resources.

      Dictators ruin everything man

They still face hardship in Spain…..many young women go to Germany/Switzerland to supplement their income as sex workers
