Old man yells at cloud, part 223866521.
still way more interested in *Frankenstein* than blue cat people Jim
That’s a hard no thanks Jimmy.
He really had me at “the academy awards mean nothing.”
Pretty bad take James. Films can’t be considered great unless they meet this arbitrary criteria you pulled out of your ass?
He’s right tho, and people mentioning certain movies are kind of proving the point further for me. Frankenstein should have been in a shitload of theatres, Train Dreams should have been in a shitload of theatres, Wake Up Dead Man should be in a shitload of theatres. And in the end if you’re not in theatres and helping try to enhance the theatre experience with the presence of these great movies Netflix then you should be limited to Emmys as far as I’m concerned since most of us are being forced to watch on tv anyway.
They gotta stop trying to save a dead industry. Take the hit and move on.
I gotta be honest, he’s right
He’s not wrong. Netflix-only should make it Emmy, not Oscar eligible.
A movie is a movie. The art of it doesn’t change just because of the way it’s distributed. Dog shit take.
I mean the Oscar’s are shit anyway what’s a bit more in the toilet
On one hand I agree, on the other, I remember how much I hate being around other people.
Limits the competition…
Does it really matter?
The same academy that takes bribes and gives awards to movies that no one watches?
A good movie shouldn’t be gate kept because of where it was released imo. If its a good movie that deserves an Oscar then it should be recognized. Propping up the theater industry because its failing isn’t going to help anyone. Bring down theater prices, make going to theaters a better experience if you want people to go out to see movies.
says the guy advocating for ai. couldn’t care less about what this man thinks anymore lol.
THE BRAVEST PIONEEEEER!!!
James Cameron probably thinks I enjoyed his movies more in the theater than I did at home!
He’s wrong and out of touch. He probably also owns a private theater…..
Who gives a shit if it has a theatrical release or not? Straight to streaming vs. being in theaters has no direct control over the content. Idk I just view this as saying “only movies shot with XYZ camera qualify!” What a pointless distinction that has no bar on if a movie is worthy of recognition
You mean the Academy that is a business association of selected filmmakers but anyone with a DGA card (!) should create further barriers to entry? Thirty year film pro never offered a seat in the Academy while a Second Ad with limited experience gets waves of free screeners and a perch to look down on the rest who have also earned the right to join. #Oscarssuck.
He’s so close to getting it.
Says the guy making a shitty pocahontas redux
There are significant differences in the marketing budgets and distribution costs for theatrical release. That money could go into the production like it does within Netflix movies.
I have to say I agree with him.
IMO, wait I don’t care because I think I watched the Oscar’s once in the 90s. I think most people don’t care about those awards beyond being a gold star on an actor’s resume. Does James go to a theater in public? Or is he complaining from a private theater?
Looks like ole JC is afraid of the competition….wait, has Netflix had an actual decent movie?
James cameron should stop making avatar movies. Imagine that money being given to a good cause instead of that boring ass franchise 💀
Okay, then every artsy fartsy douchebag movie that gets nominated needs to get a wide release.
I remember the early 2000s. Movies like Slumdog Millionaire swept the Oscars AND THEN we started getting it in theatres where I live.
Or… and here’s a hot take…. Fuck the oscars.
I feel like that is kind of bs for smaller studios isnt it?
I’m gonna be completely honest here: I don’t care. It’s all bullshit and doesn’t mean anything.
He knows his slop can’t compete
We should definitely insist that we can only give awards to movies that play in half empty theatres for a vastly inflated cost. That way people can waste a shitton of money getting them in theatres simply to qualify for the Oscars, and rich corporations and individuals like Cameron can corner the market on it all the harder.
Honestly, theatres are dead at this point. People won’t go to them in the numbers they used to and given the advances in home technology, there’s no benefit in sitting in uncomfortable seats while some jerk has a conversation on their phone and kids chuck popcorn everywhere.
This is coming from the man who will be making the same shitty blue Pocahontas movies for 20 years. If you really watch his movies they aren’t good. They look amazing and grand but as far as depth goes to man makes absolute drivel. Terminator is the only good franchise he has and even only the second one is good.
This would kill indie and independent films‘ chances at the Oscars. Unless you’re ONLY applying it to Netflix, which would be dumb.
Is he suggesting it’s easier to win an Oscar for Netflix movies?
He just doesn’t want Avatar to lose to something like Kpop Demon Hunters. He’s a snob and an asshole and frankly I don’t give two shits about his opinion.
All awards ceremonies are popularity contests and lost meaning long ago. His input is not going to make it any better.
