Funny that Sadhbh O’Neill refers to the 2016 government „Fine Gael led“ and doesn’t reger to the „Fine Gael-Labour“ government because she is now a member of Labour.
Imagine how different things would be if Government politicians knew what’s its like to be a low income earner
Sure Emer Higgins campaigned on being a regular public transport user just like all of us plebs and then immediately sided with the Keoghans/car park lobby to give us the shit watered down transport plan for the quays.
Are ministerial cars not classed public transport? Plebs…
I heard a story that years ago the minister for transport lived in Howth, and that’s why so many trains go to howth junction still. So they were using public transport, but only when they made it suit them.
Unfortunately we have eejits who will shout abuse at them. It should be mandatory for all staff for politicians to take public transport.
I have long thought that if politicians and public servants who deal with housing were forced once every few years to find a place to live on average salary for 20/30 year olds in their area, there would be a lot more houses built. It is not a perfect idea but it would show politicians just how tough it is out there.
Commuting on a bus would be the same however politicians have a large salary they can afford to live in areas with good links. And I just shake the feeling that an idea of forcing politicians into public transport is a Dublin centric solution.
There was a joke on a British tv comedy about why the transport system between London and Oxford was so good was purely due to the fact that politicians and senior civil servants wanted to be able to get for dinner easily.
Politicians aren’t aware of the „public.“
