“To perfect the pipeline system of transportation … required in the neighborhood of fifty millions of capital. This could not be maintained or obtained without industrial combination. The entire oil business is dependent upon this pipeline system. Without it every well would shut down and every foreign market would be closed to us.”
– Testimony of John D. Rockefeller before the Industrial Commission, 1899.

not dismantling the FCC and perhaps giving it the power to enforce things and leverage real penalties (along with every other country’s own version), could also help force the companies into compliance to stop being so anti-consumer.

It was over the second they put ads on top of search results.

How else to make up that amount of revenue? There are basically 2 ways to monetize internet usage and advertisement is the most lucrative and morally acceptable of them. Of course, its a matter of time before the other is put in to play and then both are converged in to the AI platform but thats what happens when continued growth is a necessity not just an expectation.

Nothing is impossible. If they built google from the ground up, they sure as hell can rip some of it out too.

Impossible ?!? That’s a perpetual motion machine. Your problem could probably be solved by putting it in ChatGPT or worst case throw it to some McKinsey consultants

Yeah right, just like switching from oil and gas to alternative energy sources is impossible. Impossible for the (complicit)shareholders to comprehend; Liquidate google and create a fund to provide grants to alternatives. Android aliance is a cartel, alphabet/google is a monopoly, or behaves in a manner that tends to create a monopoly on multiple fronts. Why are we even discussing this still? The remedies should be crushing for this twice convicted criminal enterprise.

The fixation on Google who largely offers free stuff is weird
Meanwhile Apple and Microsoft are walled garden and monopolies but they are not mentioned at all.

I don’t think people understand why it would be impossible. The reason Google is the top dog for ads is because their points of data collection on people. It makes their ads more valuable. The data collection that makes AdSense valuable comes from Google’s other products and services.
As well, their ad revenue subsidizes majority of their other products and services. Not to mention the cheaper cost for AdSense using Google’s server farms. To separate AdSense from the rest of Google would likely destroy both.
Not saying it’s right or shouldn’t be done. Or that they aren’t a monopoly. Just that it likely is indeed impossible to successfully separate them. I imagine it’s even hard to delineate integral parts of AdSense within Google due to the data harvesting coming from other services.

It’s not impossible, just fantastically expensive. Too bad they don’t have 44 billion in the bank. Oh wait…

Like I feel this is true but I also feel this just makes it more easy for foreign powers to bully into America with their own things that aren’t under our purview.
It’s weird how corporations have been that sorta international soft power for a long time, hence why it makes sovereign sense for the EU to heavily regulate such an American dominated space.

Because that’s Google’s primary income stream. The phones, gmail, the mapping are all secondary to the ad revenue.
