    1. Time to give them all full licenses without a test again? It worked out so well last time.

    2. “ Irish Road Haulage Association “

Have they seen how their “ own “ drive.

I’m on the M50 most days and between constantly flooring it, tailgating and general road rage, I can’t see how they’re in a position to comment.

Hauliers me bollox. Fucking lunatics driving trucks on the M50 every day. Too many of them too. The M50 is basically a commercial motorway at this point.

    4. Wait, what? Like almost 10% of population on learners permit? How much of that because of queue for exams?

My partner has been waiting for a year to get called.

      Zip. Zilch. Nada.

      It’s a disgrace.

    6. Didn’t the government just give a license to people who asked for them in the past, no test needed?

And that’s a main reason of accidents not a speed.
There should be options anymore to drive without full license, learner license should be completely removed.

    8. Crysis? What % of those drivers cause the accidents on our roads. As bad as the perception around the RSA right now better to listen to them about the statistics than a group who have skin in the game here.

    9. I’m at the stage where I genuinely don’t think anything at all is being managed in this country.

I question the framing of this. Claiming that 394,128 people are „on the roads“ without a full license seems dubious. How many people are driving in total?

There’s 5 million the Republic from what I could find with a google search, there’s roughly 1 million under the age 14. According to a 2023 bulletin by the Dept. of Transport there was a total of 2,570,294 taxed vehicles in Ireland. This does not account for commercial vehicles and second cars and cars that are not in use but not actively registered as such.

We can assume plenty of households have more than one driver, so we have to take this as a baseline. You mean to tell me 15.5% are actively driving without a full license?

That 394,128 number does not account for those who are waiting for tests, have just done the theory and nothing else, those who don’t have cars to practise driving in the first place or those who for personal or medical reasons can no longer drive without having completed the test.

    11. Bigger issue is ripoff EDT classes. €600+ for 12 hours of practice wont do shit. The test already makes sure you can drive before getting a full licence. Replace it with a mandatory drivers ed class in all secondary schools after junior cert so safety is drilled into kids before they start driving.
