Just like the Three advert, ‚Ah shur, you know yourself‘.

It’s like when someone asks if you’re busy. Typical answer is ‚flatout‘.

It’s like we are afraid to admit it.

Aren’t like 60% of Irish adults overweight or obese? Or by in good health do they mean not presently ill?

Kind of reminds me of the fear of crime vs crime rate disparity.

Classic Irish auld lad attitude. If they don’t require immediate hospitalisation, then sure they’re grand. We’re definitely not the healthiest in Europe, but I’d believe that we’d be the least inclined in Europe to admit to not being in good health.

A direct result of GP visits being so expensive that nobody gets the bad news they should probably hear.

    5. „So, how are you?“

      – „Ah sure, grand, and yourself?“

      [writes down answer, walks away]

      – „…..don’t they want to know how I really am?“

There’ll be lots of negative reactions to this but health and health care system aren’t the same thing. We have high quality produce and are a pretty sporty country. Food, exercise, sleep etc.. are big factors in being healthy

You only have to look at the typical pub clientele or a bus of school children to see our health is in a crisis of fattitude. Dreadful diet, no meaningful activity, poverty (cold, damp). 80% is a bad joke.

      Whistling past the graveyard stat

I think this is just a measure of the fact that (by Western European standards) we have a young population.

„Ah, it’s nothing. I’ll be grand. It’s just a lump. It’s the heat. It’ll go away on its own. Don’t be bothering over me. I wish I hadn’t told ye now.“

I swear OP spends his or her days scouring the internet to find random charts that show Ireland in a good light.

    11. The Irish mentality of, ah its grand, is something fierce

Like about 10 years ago I had a cooking mishap. Basically I was taking something out of the oven and it kinda exploded all over my face. Boiling oil probably around 180 degrees got into my right eye and everything

I sat in the shower running cold water over my face for around 3 hours. My girlfriend, who was Dutch, was begging me to go to the hospital.

She just didn’t understand that it’ll be grand. I was only blind for like a day or two. It basically sorted itself out.

We just don’t complain. Other countries probably have a higher bar for this.

I’m I good health for a 90 year old. The bad news is that I’m not even close to 90.

Oh look good news again about living and growing up in Ireland but 2 hopes you’ll hear this – more “Off to Australia Joe!”, “place is a kip Joe!”, “ place is falling apart Joe!”

    15. Would like to see the breakdown of good and very good.

I can imagine the conversation in every Irish persons head, “I better say good because I wouldn’t want to be complaining but I can’t say very good because they’ll think I have notions”.
