    1. But then how would the waves be conquered by esteemed nautical gentleman, Sir Boatington?

    2. „Don’t make joke suggestions“ I can see no flaws in this strategy. Completely idiot proof. This cant possibly backfire on them

    3. Needs a Saxon name, I think Harold is a Saxon name? Harold Ship is a great name for a ship. Harold Ship, man I’m great at naming things.

I get that it’s bit of fun and pageantry but it’s just another case of having to say “X… the thing that was called Twitter.” Or “The Allianz, you know… Twickenham stadium.”

It’s going to be called the Sutton Hoo boat forever because people will have to add this clarifier after they call it whatever it gets named.

The irony is that when RRS Sir David Attenborough arrived in Plymouth the other day, no one gave a damn until they realised it was THE Boaty McBoatface. Suddenly everyone wanted to see it!

    5. I completely agree. Boaty McBoatface is a silly name for a Saxon ship – Mc implies a Scottish clash.

Boaty Boatfacesson is a proper Anglo Saxon name.

      >BAT, or Sea-bat. An Anglo-Saxon term for boat or vessel.

How about a good Anglo-Saxon name like Bat Batson?

As soon as I first heard about this competition, the word ‚Shippy McShipface‘ immediately went into my head and this lady’s helpful suggestion isn’t helping take it back out again.

Tbf, the Boaty McBoatface joke got piledrived squarely into the ground when everyone started doing it, then the companies themselves got involved doing it.

Can’t name it Boaty McBoatface? This country used to stand for something!

Can’t believe all the immature morons in here suggesting to still submit Boaty McBoatface. Grow up.

I for one have adhered to the spirit of the competition and submitted Sutty McHooface

Repeating variations of a joke many many times just makes it not funny any more. But that won’t stop people.

    12. Just name one boaty mcboatface and then it can’t be used again. The people want what the people want!

Based on their lack of appreciation for shithouse humour, can I suggest _’Boo Hoo’_ ?
