    1. hilarious that it’s supposedly about combating misinformation when the owner of the site regularly engages in disinformation campaigns and fights both his own AI agent and Community Notes toward that end.

„Oh man, Musk sucks. I sure wish people would stop using Twitter.“ (Continues to use Twitter)

    3. About this account: it is run by the most handsome and physically fit interplanetary visionary who ever lived

    4. vonWitzleben on

I honestly don’t understand why Musk would do this or allow it to happen. Is he really deluded enough not to realize that the majority of accounts that agree with him and his views are trolls or bots from Russia, China or India?

    5. This happened yesterday and it went horribly.

wtf is wrong with this sub? Are you all bots?

What a terrible website. It everyone you back to the top. Multiple page covering pop ups. By the 4th paragraph I just closed it. Annoying af.

I hope this change allows users to much more easily see who is a bot/inauthentic personality.

    7. Looool.  So he undid all of the things Twitter originally had for this exact purpose and just slowly worked his way back towards it.  Absolute fucking moron.

Honestly how is this business still financially viable? I don’t know anyone normal who uses it.

They ALREADY rolled it back when it was being seen how many Indian Chinese and Russian accounts were pretending to be other countries people. It lasted all a couple hours lol

    10. To be fair there are accounts calling for mass murdering of Palestinians out of Israel are there not? Please correct me if I’m wrong

    11. Bad_Commit_46_pres on

This does nothing anyone actually spreading misinformation or any bad actor would easily be able to bypass this

    12. Gonna call it: most maga Accounts are based in Russia, most pro Israel Accounts in India.

This feature will be removed as soon as people realize the people they follow for beeing patriots are not even american.

    13. Derpykins666 on

Would a lot of these features be able to be circumvented by simply using a vpn? Like if it tracks where the account is running or was made, that type of thing? I’m assuming it isn’t live tracing you, its just mostly concerned about ‚where‘ it was made when it was created and how long it’s been around.

But if you were a Russian bot farm you could just set up a VPN and start creating accounts in „California“ or „New York“ and it would have those tags, thus not giving you actually any correct information. VPNs are extremely common too, this would in no ways stop misinformation bot accounts.

    15. Lot of MAGA people asking „where abouts is Mumbai, Indiana?“ when visiting their fav pro maga accounts.

They didn’t need this before they made the blue checkmarks meaningless.

And so far, we’ve learned that the Homeland Security accounts are based in Tel Aviv. Lmao

    18. hackingdreams on

And no surprise to anyone, when the majority of the MAGA accounts were shown to not be based in America, the Location feature was disabled.

Funny how Elmo didn’t even think to check that before turning it on in the first place. Oops. Smart man real smart.

    19. Is this verified?  Did this actually happen?  Given Epstein it’s like anything is believable at this point.

    20. Mythasaurus on

Notice that this isn’t all over the news, or even your Google search? Just this thread and like 2 other hits. Fascinating, isn’t it? 😂

    21. TheSpace_withYOO on

Any idea how recent the „account based in“ data is? Is it pulling data from like, the last month, the last year, or longer? Just curious how up to date it is if the user has not always resided in one country.
