If Apple couldn’t prevent right to repair despite a decade of fighting it around the world there’s no way these much smaller companies will be able to cockblock national defense just to monopolize parts and service contracts.
Penny pinching. When it fails, half their customers die. The other side lobbied.
Right to repair needs to exist across the board.
This mentality you can’t fix it yourself put another wrench into are littoral combat ship program, on top of all the other issues with the program we had to adandon it.
Congress needs to put these contractors in there place, who works for who here?
Edit: these contractors are making themselves a national security threat.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s farewell address was „we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex“
This is such bullshit and I really hope the bill passes.
I own an F-22. Wasn’t the vehicle I was looking for going into the purchasing process, but I saw a good for one on Facebook Marketplace and pulled the trigger.
First year or so it works great, I’m going supersonic, radar isn’t picking me up, I’m flying in all sorts of weather. Then one morning I’m trying to get to work and an error message pops up on my MIDS-JTRS. Can’t get the thing to run at all. Great. I call Lockheed to order a replacement. They tell me Boeing integrated it into the aircraft and I gotta go through them. OK, fine. I call Boeing. They act like they’ve never even heard of the thing before. I call Lockheed again. They tell me I called the wrong Lockheed office, I want the Ft. Worth one. Call them. They tell me that information is on the old General Dynamics server and that I have to open a ticket so they can go look for it. I tell them I already have a ticket. They tell me they use a different ticketing system.
I’m ready to scream. It’s insane how these companies refuse to let you repair your own property, then don’t even maintain the infrastructure to do it themselves! Meanwhile, I have a $125,000,000, radar absorbing titanium alloy paperweight sitting in my driveway and the HOA is getting pissed. FIX THIS BROKEN SYSTEM!
I’d go so far as to say having the right to repair is crucial to national security and is therefore non-negotiable.
First order of Defense spending bill shall be at least 40% reduction. Tell the contractors to go pound sand over repair contracts. The military does not have time to call and schedule repairs and pay enormous cost.
This is making america so great!
Think of how these companies can hold the american government hostage over its own defence LOL

Fucking insane the way this world it turning. Billions ARE controlling everything.
I feel like the MILITARY is the one entity that definitely would see right to repair as non-negotiable.
They just need to educate lawmakers about how essential it is they be able to remotely disable their products in the usual way – campaign donations and sweetheart jobs for relatives. Then it will be essential. They forgot the crucial step.
