How is this news. They have been pretty straightforward with the goal of replacing people with technology.
It’s not revealing anything this is a openly stated company goal.
That has been the plan for a long time and the only reason they haven’t done it yet, is because human workers are still cheaper and better.
* Everyone is wondering the same thing. What will happen to the people that are displaced and I can tell you exactly what will happen.
More people will do the immigrant so-called jobs that most people don’t want to do the almost free cheap labor under the table illegal construction work.
It will create a crisis of employment and it will drastically separate the classes effectively removing the lower middle class.
This is exactly what they want. They want a divide between those who have and those who have not — that way they’re easy to label and brandish. That way they’re easy to control.
I just read that leaked documents suggest Amazon might use robots and automation to replace up to 600,000 U.S. jobs by 2033. They’re looking to automate a big chunk of their operations while trying to keep things efficient and cut costs.
At the same time, Amazon says they’ve rolled out a couple of new systems meant to work alongside employees. Supposedly, the goal is to make work safer and less repetitive for us on the floor.
One of these robots, called Blue Jay, can handle multiple tasks at once in the warehouses. Amazon also claims these tools are supposed to help with ergonomics and open up more career paths for workers but I can’t help wondering what that really means for all of us.
Chinese companies are more advanced in their automation, both in traditional ways (the ugly single purpose robots) aswell as more advancd and much larger scale in the upcoming humanoid robots, where they are already recieving orders of thousands to replace workers in hard to automate tasks
Amazon is simply not gonna let china overtake them, the rest of the world will, by simple competition between countries and companoes, be forced to either adopt this model or fade into irrelevance
…and yet the one job AI could manage quite well is that of a CEO. Funny how those turds always ignore that…
“Leaked”, the threat of layoffs are and always have been a way to scare employees into working harder and complaining less.
And every tax dollar that was given away as an incentive on the promise of job-creation should be paid back.
Yeah, however, robots don’t buy things or consume products. It’s honestly going to come to point where big business grinds to halt due poverty and population decline. And no amount of billions will fix that.
When I worked there, they gave presentations telling everyone its going to happen and that was quite a while back.
And the US labor laws are so tight… they can all be let go immediately…
