Danielle Smith is pretty much the chief O&G lobbyist in Canada. Defending and furthering the O&G interests in Canada is what she truly dedicates herself to.
I still remember the celebrating C02. That kind of idiocracy/petrocracy was something else.
I still have to wonder if some of what she is doing and pushing for is just to distract from all the scandals she has going on and the worsening of her political situation in Alberta.
I wonder if we will see what is going on with national level conservativism in which people associated with the UCP start wanting more a Progressive Conservative type normalcy versus this ultra partisan culture war extremeness.
I also hope that for Alberta’s sake they start getting some real leadership that realizes at some point they have to diversify and become more multidimensional in economic and energy frameworks..
The oil tanker ban is one of the best and most redeeming environmental actions of the Trudeau government. An oil tanker leak is a statistical inevitability and clean up is basically impossible in a region that is wintry and has a jagged island and inlet heavy coastline. I hope the LPC BC MPs don’t go along with it and have a backbone, but doing this is so unecessary and shortsighted especially since there are LNG coastal terminals opening underway. Alberta doesn’t *need* to transit oil through North Coast, they just want to do it to get back at BC
If the point of this memorandum of understanding is to change things in the oil & gas sector, why would they include Saskatchewan and not British Columbia, when BC produces more oil & gas than Saskatchewan? Any MOU is not worth the paper it’s written on if BC is not involved.
