Maybe it’s time for me to switch to Linux. 🤔

An OS should take care of the boring things behind the scene, not trying to take over the creative process.

It should Sharpen the pencils; Clean the floor; Get rid of pests; Get out of the way; and Alphabetize my documents somewhere in the back… But instead, the artist needs to do all the housekeeping because the shop vacuum cleaner annoys the hell out of everyone as it gets stuck wandering around, throwing around pamphlets with „advises“, but your own documents are „thrown up in the cloud“ but end up in the streets, changes the locks every time you try to get in, while it’s main job seems to paint walls or something.

It’s just not funny. It takes time to get rid of the Windows workflow and learn a new OS. But we need to, and we’re getting there.

I remember installing 8 on a friends PC. I went to update it, and it said something along the lines of „I’ll do that when it’s optimal.“

None of us used 8 after we saw that, and the blowback fixed that problem for a while. An operating system should do exactly what you tell it to, no more no less.

The average user is getting fed up and going to Mac. The hardcore user is getting fed up and going to Linux.

Who the fuck do they think they are selling this product to???

MIcrosoft is having a mid-life crisis

As I’m sitting here in my open office listening to half a dozen different people on conference calls, I’m trying to envision the world where people would actually *want* to be talking to an AI PC assistant rather than just clicking a button to open Outlook and I got nothing.

Nevermind how useless it is right now even in the best case scenario. I was out of office for a week last month and just out of curiosity, when I got back I asked Copilot to help me clean out my inbox. It sent me a link for how to create filters. Great job.

Did no one think of adding a toggle for these features? Someone should explain to them what consent means.

I’m pretty close to switching to Linux. Last forced update broke a lot of things for me. Every update is just more annoyance now.

For a couple years now I’ve been trying to switch to Linux full-time (I use it for my homelab, but not my main PC) and I could never quite get it to do everything I wanted, so I’d go back to Windows.

I do think some of the more passionate members of the Linux community are doing a bad job of recruiting people, because they’re sometimes unrealistic about the difficulties and limitations of the OS.

Each time I’d figure out one or two more parts though, and last week I decided Windows had become shitty enough that I’m finally okay dealing with the drawbacks of Linux. I’m willing to do without in a couple instances if it means freeing myself of shitty Windows.

Linux has made leaps and bounds. It’s not all the way there yet depending on your use case (some people will scream at you it can do anything Windows can, it can’t), but honestly at this point it’s worth making a list of everything you do with your Windows machine and seeing if you can achieve the same on Linux.

I’m personally using Nobara and really enjoying my time with it. If it wasn’t for some very specific hardware needs I have, it would have been basically plug-and-play.

Microsoft is in its midlife crisis and it’s dealing with it in a terrible way.

It’s like seeing your friend for a lifetime turning into a violent alcoholic bastard, trying to steal from you whenever he can.

That’s Microsoft nowadays.

I really hope we see a regression or change of direction in tech. Sadly it will take another bubble burst. And thankfully we’re poised for one! Would like to see entirely across the board. Everything is so infused with capitalism it’s just a constant revenue. Everything is designed to entertain you, advertise to you, try to time when you’re most likely to buy…. And we do it all willingly. Everything is going subscription service. 20 years from now we won’t owe anything. Just lease it for our time.

I have been a Microsoft user going all they way back to MSDOS. I’ve had the pleasure of setting up many systems (DOS, IBM/0S2, Novell Networks, Win3.1, WinNT, Win95/98/7/10 and now Windows 11….yes I’m old)) for business and individuals. MS Windows has absolutely jumped the shark. Microsoft has lost it’s way and the most recent AI announcements make it clear Windows will be much worse moving forward.

I installed Linux mint / Libra Office yesterday and I have no intention of going back.

I refuse to ever use co pilot on any of my windows devices. I won’t even use ChatGPT.

Microsoft’s AI bullshit basically bricked my computer. I’ve been a MS diehard (I even had a Windows phone!) for decades and finally gave up and switched to a Mac.

I’ll move to Linux, not a chance in hell I’ll let AI anywhere near my machine.

I don’t see anything wrong with their integration of AI so far.

Nobody wants this „ai“ trash.  It’s a broken „solution“ looking for a problem, that then cause even more problems!

If you don’t want AI to be a thing, stop supporting it where and when you can. OS using AI? Turn it off. Movie made with AI? Don’t watch. AI cures cancer? That one’s fine lol curing diseases and health stuff I like personally. (tho for some stuff like weight loss, could just put down the fork more often and eat healthy, natural fix)

We’ve all seen how it’s already ruined social media, don’t let it do the same to your careers or creative passions next.

Windows survived ME, Vista, and 8 and then followed those up with XP, 7 and 10. It’s not too late to bail on the AI shit.
