Knew that going into the contest. Still concerned she is the least dynamic candidate most prepared to maintain the status quo. Really do not understand the theory that being moderately more pipeline friendly (while still far more pipeline unfriendly then the Conservatives or Liberals) will win the NDP any votes they weren’t getting before.
I’m hoping for Avi Lewis.
I really like her honesty, and she was against the genocide.
She is bold. I would recommend you keep an eye on her to see how she does and how she makes her decision.
People might know who she because she is a sitting MP but a leadership campaign can change that completely. I don’t think McPherson inspires people. Imo the NDP will need to get people energized and win back voters with bold populist policies if they have any hope of making a splash in the next election.
But really more than anything, the NDP needs proportional representation and they need to get the media talking about it.
NDP voter here. She may be most well known but she doesn’t have the kind of charisma the party needs to grow and have an influence in Canadian politics.
If she gets elected, expect the NDP to stay at 7 MPs or even less. She is well spoken but that alone doesn’t get you far these days.

I think she’s the best candidate – and I don’t agree with folks who say she’s not dynamic.
She’s also just as progressive/socialist/social democratic/whatever you want to call it as anyone else. She came out with a pretty awesome housing policy recently, for example.
It’s difficult to get accurate numbers for something like this when the leadership race has really struggled to break in to the mainstream. It looks well on track to have less voters and enthusiasm than the 2017 race.
I’ve heard interviews from Avi, Rob, and Heather. All whom have handled themselves fine (Rob is a lot less comfortable in the spotlight though and it shows from his mannerisms).
I’ll need to watch them debate to see how they handle themselves, putting tough question to each other and getting tough questions. I could see either of these top three growing the party, so it comes down (in my books) to who looks more …**hungry** for success and who has prepared well enough to seize unexpected opportunities.
Whoever it ends up being really needs to get involved with Charle Angus and his new channel.
My biggest problem with the NDP since Jack is they just don’t have the fight, the gusto or the spark anymore. Charle picking a fight with Pete Hoekstra might be the most energizing thing the NDP have done since Jacks final letter to Canadians.
