What Europe needs is to resurrect the 1952 Defence Union 🇪🇺. Those plans were very  advanced and include a European Army. Nato would effectively become a two-pillar organization; both pillars able to act together but also independently. This must also be democratically embedded within the EU. European Parliament made the first step last month with passing the resolution for a European Command and Control structure.

    2. Thats certainly some prophecy/coming of age level long game being played here: you got a united Europe trying to arm itself again lead by Germany and France, soon only Germany. The world hates Israel now because of Gaza. Russians are stuck in a meat grinder on the eastern front.

    3. Considering the deputy posts have pretty much always been filled with a Brit theres just a way bigger chance of that happening.

Germany spending money isnt gonna inherently give France/UK/Poland any confidence in their ability to lead

Let’s get this straight, folks – they’re asking Germany to lead a bunch of well-trained, highly armed combat troops? Easy here.

    5. Does nobody read the article? Don’t fall for ragebait. This is about the dumbest title they could come up with considering the actual comments made.

We could share Nato since USA wants out and would rather have a Russia take over Europe.

Did no one glance at the article? It says trump’s guy said he hopes they will be ready to take a turn as the supreme nato general one day, looks forward to that, but we’re not there yet.

The US should take over the White House back from pedophile horsefuckers

    10. This is not Trump’s original idea. Even Obama wanted to shift focus from Europe to China.

US just can’t wage a war on 3 fronts (Russia, Iran, China). Europe should be capable on it’s own against Russia.

    11. Dissolve it, already.Create a new European alliance, membership mandatory for ALL members of EU and open to friendly non-members, including Canada. If US wants to join, it must be the basis of being a reliable ally. There must be no more resource wars involving any European nation, and deployment abroad may only be at the request of the UN GA, as the SC is dominated and toothless.

The big issue I have with Germany having too much weight is…the „afd problem“. What happens if a far right government takes power in Germany, and uses a powerful German army against eastern europe, in a new Molotov-Ribbenton pact?

We need a powerful European army, not a German one…

Unfortunately east germany has never been properly denazified, and Germany and the rest of Europe is now paying the price for this short-sightness. Afd wouldn’t be so influential if it wasn’t for the huge support it gets from the constantly whining ossis (they got a ton of money dumped into them from the west German taxpayer…but still they are an economic basket case, especially compared to Poland).

In hindsight Thatcher was right (as always…one of the greatest politicians of the previous century).

    15. Agent Krasnov is trying to split NATO up again. There are going to be a lot of people that see this as 4th Reich stuff, and given the Americans explicit support of the AfD who want to leave NATO the purposes of this statement are quite questionable at best.

His previous plan of using the gdp requirement as an attack on NATO failed in probably the worst way possible for both the US and Russia. So he’s changing gear and attacking it through public perception and historical animosity of its members.

    16. I wonder if anyone in the current US administration remembers that **one time in history** NATOs article 5 was invoked – and brought NATO into a US-led war in the middle east.

    17. US and Russia decide Germany should take over NATO so US can leave NATO.
      I fix the title.

    18. Trump just wants to cut up America its people and it economy and sale it to the highest bidder, probably Putin.

Let the EU take over. Fixed.
Unions of free nations needs to step up in this crazy, demented and selfish world.

    20. Well… if there’s one country I’d prefer to lead NATO, it’d be France. Much more combat experience, much bigger army, not a joke in terms of military leadership. Germany „taking over“ NATO leadership wouldn’t be as good as some would believe. Let Germany be Europe’s industrial engine, while France should be its military one. For one, they have more experience and that counts.
