they should, firing lasers into a cockpit is an attack, in fact using lasers to blind is banned by the Geneva convention.

    2. Be careful what you say guys I suggested this yesterday and got a warning on my account..

The temptation is to „just sink it“ the issue there is that we have basically came out and said we know it’s Russian we know its here at the behest of the Russian state to then sink it we’re saying „yup we knew it was Russian, had Russian’s on it and yes we sunk it“

Diplomatically that’s a fairly big jump up the escalation ladder.

They have known about this ship for at least a year its only recently that its been using flashing lasers at the RAF Jets shooting past it. My guess would be that this the Yantar has been subjected to massive amounts of electronic warfare measurements to mess up whatever mapping its been trying to achieve. I would think its not really managed to achieve much and that this has been escalating for quite some time and its only in the past 48 hours that its really spilled into the public domaine (although it was reported it was around British waters in January).

The reports i have seen are that this ship entered British waters, we deployed and then the ship was flashing lasers at the jets sent to monitor it. I think the intervention by the Defence Sec was a public warning to Moscow, „either things thing fucks off or we sink it next time“.

    4. I am so fucking tired of this.

If we fight back and strike them, they will come up with some bullshit to further escalate or our dumbshit populace will vote in an alt right populist party because „they dont want war“. If we dont get provoked they come up with some bullshit and escalate anyway, while the alt right garbage makes gains anyway just slower.

Its a lose lose situation for Europe. It seems like we are headed for war no matter what we do.

I am fucking tired of this back and forth and endlessly looming threat of conflict over my head while I just try to live my life. Lets all just die already if thats where its going anyway.

    5. We should soon start to take of the gloves. Next time it happens : Overfly the vessel at low altitude at Mach 1.2 and blast it’s windows. Then Russia will protest (of course), and we will react by saying it was a rogue pilot who have had a bad day, and that he will face harsh conseqeunces. Those will of course be lenient like a 3 months flying ban, which will then be lifted after 14 days because of good behaviour. We can play these games as well, and it is about time we start playing them.

I mean, we have lasers that don’t operate in visible wavelengths, just fire those in a direction and if the russians get in the way cest le ve.

It is illegal for a civilian to do this to a passenger plane.
Can be arrested and put into prison for it.

So why is this not being treated more seriously??

Sounds like a pathetic weakling muttering to themselves in traffic about what they could do to another driver, when they know that what they will actually do is mutter to themselves about what they could do.

Just let it sink due to some „unfortunate accident“. I’m sure Mi6 can make up some ideas.

This happened over 24 hours ago wouldn’t a warning shot be a bit of a delayed response maybe even just a random shot after that time period

    11. rrRunkgullet on

The whole situation is damned if you do, damned if you don’t because the russians want an incident.

    12. PorkClaymore on

They’re looking for a response they can piss and moan about.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if all the sailors on board end up with the violent shits, or their intercom system keeps playing Carameldansen or something instead.

The best option wouldnt be to sink it, but rather to make them all look really fucking stupid.

    13. ash_ninetyone on

Fire a warning shot, state any further actions will been as a hostile act and will respond accordingly in self-defence

    14. Just sink it, bring on the escalation. Some times we just have to stand up for ourselves.

    15. The first comment I made on relation to this was if I where the pilot I’d have asked permission to engage what is clearly an invading enemy military target.

    16. is it possible to return the favour?

as in fire laser into the bridge of the ship?
