Hello everybody. The new law on foreigners in Montenegro from last week has shaken the expat community and will also affect my own business. We need to address this topic and show the government to how problematic it would be if this becomes actual law. My open letter is a short summary of how the new law affects my business directly and includes some suggestions on how to handle it in a different way. Feel free to share, I have also uploaded two PDFs in both English and Montenegrin language here: [https://montenegrotower.com/open-letter-on-the-law-on-foreigners-in-montenegro/](https://montenegrotower.com/open-letter-on-the-law-on-foreigners-in-montenegro/)
I always thought that the new law won’t really affect anybody with a legit business. I am a bit surprised to see the Montenegro Tower threatened by this, and honestly I think that’s a sign that the new law clearly has room for improvement. You have my support!
Yes, unfortunately a lot of usually successful and valuable businesses here will have to close. From language schools to pet shops, clothing boutiques to tech consultants.
I’ve been here for a few years, due to my family heritage being from Montenegro, but I also will be leaving. I’m a consultant, and I work with large international companies (from Japanese Tobacco to British Motor Corporation), but I do not need Montenegrin staff unfortunately. I’m consulted due to my own knowledge and experience.
Yeah, your letter will make a huge impact. The government is known to take seriously feedback from citizens, to incorporate reasonable and helpful ideas and improve quality of life.
