Israel already exists and Indochina is still french so between 1948-1954 that’s my best guess

    2. dandelion_king on

Definitely before 1960 because Belgian Congo is on there.

It looks like Israel is on there so after 1948; and it also looks like Germany hasn’t been divided into east and west so no later than 1949.

The GDR exists, so 1949 or thereafter, imho none the sooner. I’m not sure how to read the map’s details RE the Korea situation. Is it after the Korean War, or During…?

      Final verdict: 1958

United Arab Republic and Belgian Congo both exist at the same time, but Ghana and Guinea are both independent. This is likely summer of 1960.

EDIT: the Aden Protectoeate is also present, which was formed in 1959. This has to be between February 1959 and July 1960.

EDIT 2: the constituent states of Malaysia are not yet united, but Singapore is marked as fully independent, once again putting this at least in 1958. Cyprus is not yet independent, so before late summer of 1960.

EDIT 3: French West Africa still exists. The Aden Protectorate may still be British here, but the text isn’t visible. So this is definitely not 1960. It’s probably 1958.

Ghana exists, so 1957 or later. Belgian Congo exists, so before mid 1960.

    6. I noticed there were no photos showing all of Alaska and Hawaii, which would’ve placed the globe either before or after 1959.

    7. The positioning of text on this globe is awful to look at but that ‘Union of Soviet Socialist Republics’ is clean

It says Gulf of Mexico. So it’s pre 2025, or just made outside of America. /s but true

Yea honestly I thought this was gonna be an answer to dating apps falling popularity, a globe that helps with dating, shows you where your soul mate is or something 😅

If Brasilia isn’t on the map, then it’s pre-1960. That’s my personal favorite 1st deduction.

Give the globe some flowers and take them out to a very nice dinner, then maybe a movie.

      It’s 1958.

Syria and Egypt are part of the United Arab Republic, so it must be between Feb 1958 and Sep 1961.

The French West Africa still exists, so it must be before Oct 1958.

So between February and October 1958.

      Corroborating factors:

      – Brasília doesn’t exist (weirdly enough, both São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are shown as capitals of Brazil, but São Paulo was never the capital) – pre 1960

      – Goa is Portuguese – pre 1961

      – Belgian Congo – pre 1960

      – East Pakistan – pre 1971

      – Trucial Oman – pre 1971

      – Aden Protectorate – pre 1963

      – Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland – between 1953 and 1963

      – Union of South Africa – pre 1961

      – Nigeria is British – pre 1960

      – Angola and Mozambique are Portuguese – pre 1975

      – Sarawak and North Borneo are British – pre 1963

      EDIT: even more:

      – Gwadar belongs to Oman – pre Dec 1958

      – Independent Tunisia – post 1956

      – Independent Ghana – post 1957

      – Cyprus is British – pre 1959

1959 give or take a year. Both Guinea and French West Africa existing was a big help. It should also be noted that globe manufacturing it may also be a bit later due to delays in political recognition and updating maps.

    14. This is precisely between the 14th of July 1958, and the 8th of December 1958. These dates bound the independence of Jordan and Iraq from their Arab Federation which are both present on the map, and the change of sovereignty of the city of Gwadar in South-Western Pakistan from Oman to Pakistan which has not occurred on this map.

Late 1950s. It however still has a few holdouts from the earlier (ie. French Indochina

    16. October 1958 – January 1959, (Final quarter of 1958)

      Why after 1958:

      Ghana became independent in 1957
Guinea became independent in Oct. 1958
      UAR Feb. 1958- Sept. 1961

      Why before 1960:

      Congo is still Belgian (1960+)
      No Mali Federation (1960+)
Cameroon (Fr.) became independent in 1st Jan 1960
Togo became independent in Apr 1960
Oman without borders that means the map is before 1960
Cyprus (signed on Feb. 1959, Official independence 1960+)

French West Africa dissolved in 1958, but globes kept it for a year or two (Ya know, updates)

Six states of the Western Aden Protectorate joined to form the so called „Federation of Arab Emirates of the South“ on Februray 11, 1959
Where Ahwar, Wahaida, Mukalla were part of the „Aden Protectorate“

We had EXACTLY that globe at home growing up. My dad bought it secondhand in 1964, so that makes sense.

    18. TenaciousLilMonkey on

      1956-1958

      Logic:

      1956-1971 – east Pakistan

      Till 1960 – Belgian Congo

Till 1960 – Cyprus shown as British

Till 1958 – French west Africa

    19. OwnSeaworthiness7007 on

Between February and September 1958. UAR was founded by union of Egypt and Syria in February 1958. French Equatorial Africa was dissolved in September 1958. Both are on the globe.

Israel was established in 1948, Korea split in 1948 so the answer has to be 1948, no?
