      I’m wondering how this data is gathered. It’s hard to imagine anyone admitting they impregnated and married their cousin, sister or anything of that nature.

      For those who wonder: this custom is so widespread in certain countries due to religious (Muslim) inheritance laws. Mostly to keep generational wealth within your close family. It is also often reinforced by the tradition of marriages arranged by parents.

      Some of these are dubious to say the least. There aren’t more than 30 million consanguineous marriages in Indonesia or more than 4 million consanguineous marriages in Sri Lanka, that’s not a thing. Also Sri Lanka being represented but somehow not India seems hypocritical.

      Map is less useful without definition of consanguineous marriage in practical terms (first cousin, second cousin, categorical kin term „cousin“ marriages).

      Close cousin marriage in Middle East, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan predate Islam and is tied to older patriarchal herding social systems.

      Crazy how Ethiopian and Eritrean Christian culture strictly forbids cousin marrriage up to even 7th cousins, while Somalia and Sudan are over 50% in consanguineous marriages.

      Why is India not coloured when it has higher consanguineous marriage rates than Bangladesh. Seems like this whole thing was set up with an agenda.

      Hmm. Interesting. Does anyone know if there is any common ground or correlations we know of between consanguineous marriages and anything else? Like if there are any indicators? I can’t for the life of me figure it out, but inshallah I’m going to figure it out.

      I mean these countries are so varied in culture and language- I can’t think of a single thing. What on earth do Libyans, Egyptians, Saudis, Yemeni, and Persian people have in common?

      Inbreeding is also linked to lower iq, lower impulse control, mental/physical illness. What might happen when a bunch of people who are products of inbreeding come to places that aren’t? Will the non inbred culture be enriched by having more inbreds?

      This is very wrong for Somalia, it is no way near as high as Pakistan or Arabia. What is the source for this data?

      I really despise how these kinda maps always include Somaliland with Somalia when we’re literally the opposite
