So who _was_ paying those tariffs again? Why drop them, Mr. President?

    2. TintedApostle on

The damage is done. Prices aren’t going to drop. Corporations are now going to pocket the difference.

    3. SnoobNoob7860 on

i don’t understand. if tariffs bring income to the economy why slash them? 🤔

      /s

    4. Wait – so the tariffs ***are*** the reason food prices are so high?!? MAGAts are going to need a full day of the the thought police telling them how this isn’t true.

    5. subUrbanMire on

      >The growing affordability crisis has become a political liability for the administration. Cutting tariffs is at least one way to potentially make groceries cheaper.

Create a crisis, then „fix“ it.

      It’s the MAGA way.

    6. I am so confused. If tariffs don’t cause higher prices, then how is lowering or removing tariffs going to reduce prices?

Plus, we’ve been told that prices are lower on everything and inflation is completely under control.

      So confusing!!!

    7. JollyJulieArt on

I highly doubt that companies would suddenly lower prices for their products. Companies would take the opportunity to pocket the bigger profit now. That what sucks the most, the damage is done. Unless they put regulations to force companies to bring down their prices, nothing is gonna get cheaper

    8. Gordon_throwaway on

Why? I thought tariffs were paid by the exporting country. Why does Trump hate America?

    9. Alwaystired254 on

The funny thing about price increases, reg coffee will stay at 10$. Like a Dunkin’ or a Starbucks. Once they realize they can increase 20% and people will buy, they will not lower

    10. Formal_Specific1473 on

Yup, first he creates the tariff price crisis. Then he pretends to be a hero now in reducing some of the tariff rates! What a class act jackass president.

    11. homersracket on

The harm is done. Prices aren’t coming down. Companies got to cozy with the new premiums.

    12. Illustrious-Lie8329 on

The American 🇺🇸 banana farmers won’t be happy with this 😡

    13. Wookiee_Magic on

Let me guess that now he’ll act as the savior for bringing prices down.

    14. existential_antelope on

And if you point this out to Trump supporters they’ll still make zero connection that all of the warnings were accurate and that tariffs are what fucked everything. They’ll defend this still.

    15. Oh but I thought we were bringing banana production back to the US where farm workers will enjoy middle class wages and go home to their trad wife and 2 car garage. Did that happen yet?

    16. This won’t make the prices go down.

I know Trump isn’t an economist, but surely he’s heard of price stickiness. Once the companies realize most consumers will pay the higher price, that becomes the new price.

Maybe they’ll drop the price a few pennies to encourage the few who were unable to meet the new price demand, but it will never go back to pre-fuckup levels.

Groceries. What an old fashioned word, according to Trump.

Tariffs. What a simple word that he *still* doesn’t understand, but at least he’s partially figured out that high tariffs raise prices for consumers. If only he had competent people around him to advise him. But he fired all of those people for not sucking up to him.

So much sucking. It’s sucking the economy right down one of those Trump toilets.

    17. The cost of the items he removed tariffs from are impacted by dozens of other sectors of the economy that are still heavily impacted by tariffs. The steel frames of the tractor trailers used to transport beef, bananas, and coffee are still going up in cost. As are the service parts for the harvesters, and the electricity cost at the butcher, and dozens of other third and fourth level costs. Prices of everything are just barely beginning to reflect the costs of the tariffs. This would take 10years to shake out if tariffs were shut off right now.

    18. Beef to bananas. Awwww, is he using the kids alphabet chart to pick the goods to apply tariff on? That’s so cute! Cucumbers and coffee must be coming up next.

    19. Mysterious-Wasabi103 on

Probably cause big corporations are now turning on Trump for fucking up the economy.

    20. Imagine if someone knew about this in advance, like yesterday. They could invest in commodities that would drastically change prices. I hope no one did that.

    21. KeyInvestigator3741 on

Don’t understand why we had tariffs on coffee and mangoes in the first place. This man is so fricking dumb.

    22. geekonthemoon on

In other words, the bully stops punching you in the face, and asks you to say Thank You.

    23. tommytwotakes on

Gee-almost like they shouldn’t have been on there in the first place…

    24. Damn, can’t wait to keep paying the same high price because that shit ain’t coming back down. Not with the profit corps are making.

    25. Several_Hour_347 on

Weren’t we getting trillions of dollars that no one could explain? Why get rid of them? /s

    26. Supply Chain professional here who spends all of their job importing global foods:

TARIFF IS A FANCY NAME FOR TAX AND IS PAID BY THE IMPORTER. There is simply no way around this. Most importers work on FOB terms which means the tax is paid at the port. I.e, when I import, say, bananas, to clear customs and bring them to the warehouse, there is a line item paid against merchandise cost to release —right now anywhere from 10-45% on most of my goods. Even if a supplier is shipping on DDP terms, you bet they are slapping that cost onto their invoice. Not a single one of my hundreds of suppliers has given more than a one time 2% discount on any goods. IF ANYONE THINKS THIS IS NOT IMMEDIATELY GETTING PASSED ALONG TO THE CONSUMER YOU ARE DEAD ASS WRONG.

On top of that, absolutely none of the items you are buying from a market are coming directly from from supplier. These taxes are getting passed from importer to distributor to regional distributor. A wild amount of upcharge at every step.

I have never been more stumped by a directive. Truly, the only thing I can gather is that absolutely nobody in this administration has any idea how the supply chain works.

    27. stfunazibitchthrowaw on

I thought gRoCerIes were already cheap, fuckface? Why would you have to do that? Pedo-ass bitch.

    28. Minimaliszt on

Create the problem then provide the solution. Tariffs raise prices, remove tariffs hoping for prices to drop, if they drop, claim how you delivered on your promise. His base is stupid. They will think he won.

    29. Different-Travel-850 on

Ohoh polls must be getting away on him. Maybe he’ll start a war to prop them up too.
Scary how many lives this lunatic is capable of impacting.
