Edit. Why is this downvoted? He had his hands up. He was trying to surrender. Under the Geneva Conventions he was no longer a combatant.
murder of a surrendered soldier is a grave violation of the Geneva Conventions, a crime that both Ukraine and Russia are bound to uphold. International humanitarian law, as codified in the Geneva Conventions, prohibits the killing of any combatant who has laid down their arms or is no longer able to fight. Ukraine is investigating alleged instances of this crime, which is considered a serious international crime under its own laws and international law.

War is hell. There’s zero context here so I’m not going to judge. The only thing I know is the Russian wouldn’t have died like that sitting on his sofa at home.

Aside from widely recognized prolific war crimes in drone warfare, the war there is going to be retrospectively ridiculous to prosecute for abject disregard for the Geneva Convention.

Could be any number of things going on here. People saying he was definitely surrendering. Maybe? maybe not? He was certainly trying to get away from where he was. He could have just ambushed some of the ukranians buddies and killed them. They could be in a really forward area or behind the lines where taking prisoners is not possible. We don’t know.
The only thing we do know is just like very war there ever was there is fucked up things going on on both sides. It’s well documented that Russia started this war and invaded their neighbor and sent in their army to kill and enslave them. There have been many instances that are well documented where they have committed war crimes and straight up massacred the civilian population. Raped, pillaged and looted everything. You’d think they emptied the jails and gave them weapons and let them loose… oh wait they did…
Ukraine certainly didn’t want Russia to invade them. And I’m sure they don’t want a war. Russia certainly does want one. If I was a Ukrainian man I’d want to kill every last one of these murdering invading bastards. So I think in a lot of cases they have shown quite a high level of restraint. They certainly act more humanly than the Russians. Bucha, Oleksandr Matsievsky, unnamed POW that was castrated…. Do I need to go on…

It’s an urban war zone, Russian guy could have a grenade, headshot makes sure he’s done fighting. They’re not especially inclined to try and take prisoners at that range.
