    1. Because their previous efforts were a huge success.

They will probably retry the some old failed ideas.

It would be funny if they came back within a week with a one page report that said „stop being shitty about foreigners we need way more“

    3. Yes, that’s what we need, another committee. Never can have too many of those.

    4. All the things that should be done will not be done. Just another waste of money

Same problem as in every developed country: unlike in developing countries children are not the guarantee for your retirement or life when you‘re old, but they give young families financial stress.

Average salary in Japan is 4.5MJPY. (Less than 30kUSD)
If you live in Tokyo metro area, even if both parents are working, the max you can afford comfortably is 1 child. And since Japanese have a good education system and are prudent, they understand this. So you don’t have the idiocracy effect like in some other countries ;). Besides, with a child you won’t be able to join in the social media game posting your vacations, fancy coffees or new cell phone.

    6. Wanna tackle it? Immigrants and a proper integration policy, want more kids? Fix wages housing parental leave 4 day work week etc

    7. No matter, how bad these oldsters want the 1950ies back, it won’t happen. If they don’t start to build the Japan of 2050, all their efforts will fail.

    8. Tough to get a hard-on when the person living below you is banging on the ceiling with a broom-handle because you aren’t completely silent.

Don’t have a kid but does the japanese government cover day care?

    10. This is the usual multifaceted issue that faces all developed nations:

      * Peer pressure to have kids has lessened especially with the reduction in familial bonds. E.g. it has never been easier to disown family if you think they are a burden or annoying.
      * The lack of communities in the modern era and having children later, means that nearly all child rearing is solely on the parents, as grandparents are too old to be actively involved.
      * The modern expectations of child rearing is incredibly high compared to previous generations, e.g. children previously would just be sent outdoors all day without parent supervision, unless it was bad weather and university level education was the exception. (child mortality has reduced hugely, but came with a cost)
      * For the majority of the population, both parents need to work, leaving parents stressed and tired.
      * Prevalence of effective contraception and sexual education, a hell of a lot less unexpected pregnancies in the modern era.
      * Reduction in real life human interaction in the modern era, the more people interact with each other, the greater the chance and opportunity for physically intimacy.
      * The modern era has a huge number of ways to generate dopamine (TV, computer games, travel, smart phones etc) and they are a safe & easy, where raising children can be a complete crapshoot, nature can make it impossible with the normal resources at hand to raise a pleasant and/or rewarding child/ren.
