David Zucker sounding disappointingly out of touch in this article.
Also Seth MacFarlane did not write or direct this, he helped as a producer. The movie was directed and co-written by Akiva Schaffer of The Lonely Island (Hot Rod, Pop Star, Rescue Rangers). The third act falters a bit but the new movie felt like it went well out of it’s way to be lovingly respectful to the original trilogy.

Gotta remember. These articles are written by reporters. Who ask questions. Often baited questions to get these responses. I wouldn’t take these things too seriously

Zucker is obsessed. He did an AMA on here recently to promote a new project but literally all he did was complain about the new Naked Gun. Guy needs to take a chill pill
Sidenote: He literally did the same thing to the Wayans Bros when he directed Scary Movie 3 btw

I enjoyed the reboot. Although the movie did stumble during the last 10 minutes with jokes that didn’t quite land – over all, the reboot was a good time. I still can’t get a sense as to whether Zucker actually saw the movie. I feel like he just saw the trailer and is making assumptions. While it’s true, the reboot’s visual style is a lot more modern, with updated technology – the humor though, is still very much the same old school Naked Gun fun we got in the 80’s and 90’s.

There is a mountain of terrible reboots and ripoffs. This ain’t one of em

And here I am thinking the new movie did a great job of honoring the originals while being fresh. I really didn’t think we’d get a modern Naked Gun as good as that 🤷🏿♂️

I loved the original and enjoyed the reboot (although the ending was kind of scattered and didn’t totally make sense to me). I thought they did a great job of capturing the spirit without doing a shot by shot remake.

The New Naked Gun is hilarious and a loving tribute to the originals. Akivva Shaffer directed Hot Rod, MacGruber, and Pop Star, he’s the Scorcese of comedy.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this reboot. Maybe it wasn’t on the level of the original, but it didn’t good job living up to the brand.

The new Naked Gun was funnier than expected but wasn’t nearly as silly the first movie. Though the original Naked Gun set a high bar

Imitation is the highest form of flattery dumbass, also it’s a remake so of course it’s similar.

Re Guy who made a movie that parodies a genre, I think Krusty the clown said it best – if this is anyone but Steve Allen, you stole my idea

I had friends that were completely prepared to hate the new one. They told me they were going to hate watch it. They all loved it.

I thought it was fun but, having grown up on those films, it did slightly miss the relentless joke quotient of the originals
Sight gags, playing on words, gags in the background, it’s almost nonstop and I do think this new film did fall short in that regard.
But it was still a fun time, and that snowman sequence was surreal brilliance

How can a person say they were copied and it was completely not what they had?!?!?! A copy would be the same thing! Also how can he say it was or wasn’t copied when he never WATCHED the movie!!!! I saw the movie and i like the movie. Akiva did an excellent job. Finally let me add, Quaid Army

We’ve sorely been needing good comedy movies and this one hits the mark. Old bro is senile and should enjoy retirement.

Disagree- I thought it did a great job of paying homage to the originals. It was a love letter, not a photocopy.

That was the point, stupid.

Maybe the guy who [stole ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohV9gyjrd6E)half his jokes from Blake Edwards should chill out a bit.
So his complaint is their reboot of a parody movie was……a parody movie? he expected them to re-invent the entire genre?
I mean…….. YEAH???? That’s the point Dave
So making the Reboot play out like the original is bad? What the fuck? Is the original director a fucking moron?
