      That’s a lot of Canadian tax dollars that went to waste right there.

      I know somebody who fled Vietnam as a child with his older sisters. Their first stop was Malaysia and their second stop was British Hong Kong before they arrived in Canada in 1986.

      They were treated humanely, but not much more than that. But most of the men in their family were murdered by the communists so refugee camp in Malaysia and a dormitory in Hong Kong seemed pretty good. I am sure the suggestion that they be put up in hotels and paid a stipend would have been considered laughable at the time even by themselves.
