No one likes funerals, everyone finds funerals emotionally exhausting, you show up for your brother and thats it.

For context, he is likely traumatized by going to the funeral of his father who was murdered when he was 8 years old.
That’s some heavy shit and I don’t think anyone should judge.

It’s not required to have or attend a funeral for when someone dies. It’s just tradition.

I agree there are different ways to honour people we lose. Funerals are one of those ways and no-one has to observe the ritual if they don’t want to. Personally I would like to be cremated (no family need to attend) and then for my family to have a full wake that turns into a Rave.

That’s tough.
I know how important it is to attend a family members funeral… especially in the black community.
Not attended can lead to family strain afterwards.

It’s unfortunate, but EVERYBODY shows up to the funeral. Haters, clout chasers, even your enemies. Be selective with who you mourn with. Some memories are sacred and should only be shared and honored with those who are deserving of it.

I didn’t go to my dad’s funeral because I was 9 and the whole experience was extremely traumatizing.

Coward.
My older brother did the same thing leaving me to take care of the whole funeral, both financially and logistically. Fuck Eddie Murphy.

I agree about funerals. I loath them. I’m not having one.

Can’t believe they labeled Charlie Murphy as Eddie Murphy in the article

I’m glad Eddie opened up about feeling overwhelmed by a common tradition. It’s good to examine traditions & not feel obligated to follow them

Eh my father, who is the kindest person I know didn’t go to his parents’ and sister’s funerals. When they were alive he used to visit them everyday (a lot of times twice a day) and take care of them (my aunt had a disability and my grandfather had a medical issue). He always says that he did everything he could when they were alive and going to the funeral was pointless for him.
