Although the three scholars cite other reasons for coming (though, a few allude to it), I suspect that we’ll be seeing a lot more of this in the coming years.
Trump’s actions towards universities will undoubtedly drive top talent out of the US, and Canada stands to benefit greatly from it.

I wonder what the breakdown of salary vs „research funding support“ is for that figure. When I was looking at UofT postdoc positions a while back the average pay was something like $40k – $50k before taxes. Very difficult to attract „top talent“ with that kind of pay in a place as expensive as Toronto.
Im hoping they are finally paying people better but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a 60-40 split at best.
Though this is good news, Ontario’s post-secondary funding is in shambles and has fallen in real terms since Doug Ford took office.
It’s anyone’s guess whether we can actually benefit and keep on attracting the best and brightest when the Province couldn’t care less about our Universities.
