    1. My whole life I was told that gulf coast of Alabama and Mississippi, while having far fewer days of rain than the Pacific Northwest, has the most inches of rain annually.

      It’s fascinating how the high-elevation mountain ranges seem to generate their own precipitation—the Sierras, Wasatch, and Uintas are all much wetter than the surrounding deserts.

    3. Most interesting part of this map is where hurricane Helene hit.

      Edit, I stand corrected, title says through 2020, i looked at the bottom where its noted copyright 2025.

    4. Good resolution on this map. Appreciate the detail of the rain shadow in western Washington. Mount Rainier can also be distinguished. Note also the Ruby Mountains in Nevada showing a smidge of blue.

    5. The rainiest city in the continental US by average annual rainfall is actually Mobile, AL on the Gulf Coast. The city receives an average of 66 inches of rain every year.
