    Warum sind gute Reifen hier so viel teurer als in Großbritannien? Ein 130-Euro-Reifen kostet in Irland 185 Euro, 42 % mehr.

      Like most consumables we buy in Ireland, it requires a 3rd party to buy from an offshore supplier, hold stock, pay staff, and eventually make a profit.

      Two things, really:

      1. There’s a minimum cost to setting up a company to do all this. In the UK the big boys like National or Kwik Fit can spread that cost across several hundred branches – but Ireland’s only got a couple of big cities and a much smaller population. So the cost isn’t spread as thin.
      2. Sure, the Irish will occasionally moan about it. But they’ll pay anyway.

      The size of the UK market makes it more competitive on things like this. Technically we should have the benefit of the EU market but things like tyres are awkward to ship around.

      However try tyreleader.ie and oponeo, they will be the cheapest and you can choose a tyre fitter that is on their system to deliver them to and get them fitted for about €20 a corner.

      Oponeo.ie has this exact tyre at 145 euro, shipping included. I’ve stopped buying tyres here, there is no value for money. Oponeo will ship to a local fitter, you get a call when they’re in and make an appointment to fit (at extra cost). No fuss over tyres bought elsewhere, no drama, no hidden charges, even with fitting charges you’re better off. My example: for what it would cost me to buy 4 shitty tyres, I got 4 x Kumho tyres instead.

      Thats quite a low weight handling value on that tyre. What car are you proposing to fit them to ?

      Anyway, you can get them delivered to your house for about 130 each from this online retailer and if you are buying and fitting them for 130 euros each, please tell me where exactly as normally garages charge from 10 to 20 euros to fit internet bought tyres, and bought and fitted for 130 each is a massive bargain.

      Edit: That UK price fitted is a bargin price alright.

      (Most of these listed are 87 weight handling but there is one 83 listed. Personally I would go with the higher weight handling value)

      Because it costs alot more to do business in Ireland.. Higher wages/rents/overheads… business also suffer due to inflation so that cost is going to be passed on.

      I was looking at dumbbells on Amazon the other day, if I were to buy them from co.uk it would be 185 € + 75 € or so for customs etc. Sadly, they wouldn’t deliver to Ireland though.

      If I were to buy them from .ie the cost was 430 € without any customs. More than double the price of the same product on .co.uk…

      It’s 150€ per tyre on tyres.ie (yes that’s how they spell it)

      It’s 127€ per tyre on grip500.ie

      Did you even bother to google that tyre in Ireland or did you just want a daily moan?

      I always get my tyres up north. Diesel in Newry last time I was there a couple of months back was 1.24 a litre, nearly 30 cent cheaper than my local garage when you take the exchange rate into consideration, the north has gotten more expensive over the last few years but there is still plenty of value to be had on many things.

      Don’t get me started on the alcohol prices 😅

      Everything in this country is expensive.

      Because everything has to be expensive. To cover the costs of everyone’s business inputs being so expensive.

      Like, massive turnover, but massive cost base level bollocks so the actual profit is lower.

      Its a sort of positive feedback loop.

      Shipping is a real cost. Ferries, 40ft trucks, drivers etc. As an Island we pay more for certain things.

      If you’re near the border, book your new tyres to be fitted up north on black circles

      Halford’s are a UK company. Some UK based companies have basically not changed their supply lines at all since Brexit. Don’t buy from them myself so can’t speak to them directly, but you will see it with plenty of others.

      European parts/ products are imported to the UK and then sent here, but taxed as a UK Import and we pay the price on it. You see it with things as small as halogen bulbs for cars. A €25 bulb in France will be €40 here, and around £30 sterling.

      You can buy it and ship it from mainland Europe cheaper if you have time to wait for it to ship etc.
