I think it’s fine for a caucus member to criticize their own party, but it’s also fine for me to not take him particularly seriously.
The „Maverick“ schtick is pretty tired now and he has a clear axe to grind with Carney, and as Cochrane alluded to he’s pretty much just regurgitating boilerplate opposition talking points. NES genuinely strikes me as someone is out to hear the sound of his own voice above all else.

He’s always been a big proponent for reducing the cost of living and primary reining in housing affordability. This budget is a pretty big miss on both fronts.
Imagine he’s still a little bitter from Carney putting in a multi-millionaire landlord who doesn’t think housing prices should fall as Minister of Housing over him as well.

He’s on the left of the party so this isn’t surprising. Had he won office ten years earlier he’d be NDP. NES wants Premier of ON and he’s working on building his name up opposing austerity at the federal level as well as provincial.
