I’m just happy that little 5-9.99% ventured out to see something new

These percentages probably are skewed because the western states have lots of public land that is “protected” by federal regulations keeping them open for extraction, grazing, skiing and other recreation, even nuclear testing. And, all the farm land from the Dakotas to Georgia is private land that isn’t considered “protected.” So, I think this map skews reality. It would be better to have a source, define protection, and make it a % of public or private land. Land conservation issues are fundamentally different in the West than in the East.

How is “land protection” defined? New York has huge swaths of protected land with the Adirondack and Catskill State Parks, not to mention smaller parks.
