What New Research Reveals About Social Media and Mental Health: Are Teens Over It?

Classic teenage logic – „Yeah, I know a lot of kids at my school are getting addicted to vaping, but I won’t get addicted!“
Straight banning phones/internet/social media for kids is a bad idea.
Social media ban till 16 is okay but phone and internet ban literally deprives kids of opportunities to learn, answer their questions and have fun. And I think it’s fair to say it’s mostly poorer kids that will be affected, they get less help with homework, they only have mobile phones, no money for console, PC or movie theater.
I write this because I see young people (like age 25-30) online say it hurt them but they don’t want to ban it for them but for the kids, it’s mental how they become boomers at age 30 and, also, it’s all confirmation bias because they don’t want to hear other people’s opinions.
The main problem is overuse of social media.
Yes, it’s addicting like drugs and smoking and similar to smoking, doing drugs, nobody in school tells you to make a Facebook account.
Funny that religious delusions and social media psychosis have the same side effects.
We needed another study to show a particular instance of the above-average effect for the millionth time?
Tbh I do sort of get this as a teen. I spend about two hours on YouTube a day, and a bit less than that on Reddit. AND THATS A LOT but at the same time, on YouTube I’m strictly watching the books/sewing/knitting/crocheting people so I my self esteem is fine, and I get ideas for future projects. On Reddit, I’m mostly on books or other crafting spaces, so I get ideas on what to read next.
By itself, it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal for me—do try to convince me otherwise cause I’m easily swayed :D—but for other teens, they’re probably watching other stuff and I’d consider that more harmful even if they don’t.
Probably the exact same numbers if you ask their parents what they think of the effects of social media/Cable News on themselves.
