The only good thing that can come from this is the immediate end of Chuck Schumer’s political career.
And still we need to blame republicans because they forced this insane choice in the first place.
The thing is, this response was not just entirely predictable, I am sure phones were ringing off the hook in D Senate offices yesterday afternoon *before* the „deal“ was struck.
Schumer *et al* simply did not give a fuck.
Need to blame centrist/moderates for this. Democrats are not in lock step and the divisions will keep causing a bigger split.
Senate Dems did cave, but not for the reason Democrats are saying. Forget the ACA extension; it’s fate was sealed when the GOP won both houses of Congress a year ago. To expect that Trump or Johnson would’ve negotiated an ACA extension in good faith is a delusional fantasy. They were clearly more willing to let kids starve and planes fall out of the sky than do that.
The better option here would’ve been to force the Senate GOP to cave to Trump, and end the filibuster. Then Dems could’ve at least said they tried to use what little power they have to stop the rise in health care costs. Now, the GOP can more easily claim that Dems shut down the government for record time, for absolutely no reason.
Trump reforms our complete society in his maga image, we get a losing vote on health care. What a fucking party.
All the gains democrats made with progressives to win the elections last week were just flushed down the toilet.
Schumer’s loser „centrist“ heels will not lose any committee assignments or otherwise be punished by the loser „centrist“ heel leadership. The Senate Democrats need progressive leadership and that means primarying out loser „centrist“ heels from the Senate and blocking more loser „centrist“ heels from joining the Senate (Janet Mills):

I keep refreshing my feed, looking for an article that at least gives me some reasonable explanation for what these dumbasses did. It’s not coming. This was just pure, unadulterated failure.
Two of the cave ins are retiring and the rest are not up for election next year. Among this group is the Minority Whip who’s fucking job is to keep something like this from happening. Either Schumer lined up safe picks to take the fall or he has no control of his party. Regardless he is spineless and weak. The younger Dems like AOC should spend now until midterm elections hammering to voters who crippled their Healthcare for nothing and who needs to go. If a blue wave is even still possible next year take these fossils along with any gains from the GOP.
In my view this was all really about the Democratic Party showing their supporters that they’ve a spine for the fight. That they can use whatever power they have as a minority power to stand up to the Trump regime, and the ACA subsidies seemed a reasonable issue to make this clear. And they failed. So sure, it might empower Trump, and it does nothing to fix the issue.
But the real damage here for the Democrats is eroding the confidence their voters have in their leadership. When you’re own voters are made at you, there is a lot of work to do as a party to rectify issues in your own house. Being seen as incapable by your supporters isn’t good politics and now they’ll need to show both leadership and system changes to their own voters to win back trust. And what a great way to piss away any momentum from last week.

At some point people need to stop interpreting dissatisfaction with these guys as „both sides.“ Nobody is saying that Chick Schumer’s idea of governing people if he was in charge is „the same“ as 47’s. But if they are going to do literally nothing to stop this (other than pointlessly starve people for 40 days only to fold) they are useless and must go.
When the Dems are in this role (opposition party) I look at it like the acab people. Sure, the cop that knows his colleagues are up to no go, but isn’t participating in is better than those that are participating. However, at some point he has to own that his actions are doing nothing but encouraging it to continue.

The speech Bernie made was so well put and I agree with him. They should of held firm. I am on SNAP but without ACA subsides the people won’t be able to afford insurance. He has been the person that continuously fights for all Americans. We don’t deserve Bernie.

If you want to have any effect on this, instead of just complaining on reddit, call your senator and call other senators and demand they oust Schumer. If you’re a Virginian, call Kaine and demand he resign. Ditto if you are in the constituency of any defector.
This political malpractice cannot be cottoned. Pressure your senators to remove Schumer from leadership and if your senator was responsible for this, demand they resign. I’d also recommend calling Schumer and demand he resign.
