The “Emerald Isle”. People think we have this lush, green landscape when in reality we have some of the worst biodiversity and tree cover in Europe.
That there are no guns in Ireland. There’s 100k+ licensed guns in Ireland and many more unlicensed ones used by the criminal underworld.
Getting a license is a pain though and the guards come up with stupid excuses to throw the application back at you or „lose“ it all the time so you really need to have your ducks in a row to apply
We have close to zero indigenous industry or entrepreneurship. If SF or any other govt come to power and seek to disturb the MMC gravy train – we go back to being the backwater of Europe and an exporter of our best and brightest abroad.

I think the „so friendly“ thing gets exaggerated a bit
We’re part of „England“ and British.
The drinking stereotype. We really don’t drink as much as portrayed. We drink less than the British, Germans, French, Belgians, most of eastern Europe… It’s just an anti Irish stereotype that’s constantly pushed. We kind of lean into it for a laugh but I think we shouldn’t.

that we aren’t actually all that friendly, we are fake nice, pleasantly polite up front to save face but will talk shit about you when your back is turned and begrudge you.

Despite staunchly arguing the need for more Irish language usage, integration into daily life, and general cultural celebration, most of us can’t be arsed to learn it ir speak it or spread it ourselves.
Our GDP is a signifier of the quality of life in Ireland.

We’re a deeply, emotionally repressed/stunted ppl and a lot of our ppl pleasing emerges from that.
Corned beef and cabbage. It’s common in Irish diaspora populations, particularly New York when the Irish and Jewish communities settled close together and beef became much easier to get a hold of than pork.
But if someone came near me with corned beef in this country instead of bacon and cabbage, I’d slap it out of their hand and straight through the hull of the International Space Station.
That we’re very left wing, comes up in conversations with Americans about Trump a lot. Like in many ways our immigration laws are as strict if not stricter.
That we’re big into Catholicism and religion and Jesus
The rate and level at which Ireland has become secular in the last 20 – 30 years would put the heart across some of them.
Friendliness.
Apparently we are famous for it, but it is only at the surface level. Irish people are notoriously difficult to make actual friends with, they are very cliquey and wary of strangers.
Even me as an Irish person finds it difficult to make and keep Irish friends. All my friends are foreigners and so is my wife… in no small part simply because they were all easier and quicker to connect with and imo far friendlier.
I’d say on reddit a lot of people around the world might think that this is how irish people are when in reality the vast majority of opinions on reddit are not held by the general population in real life.. Take the family care referendum for example , on here you would believe that most would vote ye and anyone who votes no is a right wing nutter, but it was a resounding no vote when the actual public voted
That we’re patient and laid back. Especially in a hospitality setting
That the government care about Palestine… it’s the people not the government
That most people hate the English and anything associated with them
We’re a country full of west Brits primarily obsessed with premier league football and English media whilst largely neglecting our own for a very long time, it’s only become “cool” to listen to the likes of Fontaines and Kneecap recently
It’s not actually a republic in anything but name.
that we have any sort of influence on the world stage despite all our virtue signalling
Irish people are rebellious. The majority are submissive conformists, the rebels were always a minority who occasionally got the majority to conform to their viewpoint.
