We really had a run of 4 very good presidents of differing styles. Michael D imo has been the best of them and although he didn’t have quite the political challenges Hillary and McAleese faced, he’s been by far and away more popular with the people.

Have you seen the photos of his office? Its going to take a Defence Forces convoy to move all it all and the State Pathologist will have to go round putting numbered triangles on all the piles!

He was a hugely reflective president, and is a very deep thinker, very laid back and always down to earth and accessible, and used the soft power and the platform very well – couldn’t have been less like that image!

We’ve had a phenomenal run of presidents for the last 5 terms – he and his two predecessors expanded the role and were outstanding representatives of Ireland.
