    1. They’re getting played if they actually want the ACA extension.

The deal is to vote for the Republican house package as it is and Thune will allow a separate vote on ACA extensions.

I’m so sick of these couple centrist Democrats always giving everything away for nothing in return.

I’m guessing what they actually want is Republicans to cause more suffering so they can run against it, rather than to deliver anything for the people.

    2. The Democrats caved. They had a winning hand and threw it away. Now Republicans will screw them over and the Dems will pretend to be oh so shocked that they were lied to.

      Fuck this.

    3. fullmetalforeign on

The moderate democrats caved without getting anything. Congrats republicans! I am tonights biggest loser being a democrat. This party sucks and they are cowards. All the dems that will vote for this need to be primaried asap.

    4. oven_toasted_bread on

They just showed that they will always eventually give in. Trump will be celebrated as a master negotiator. Pathetic.

    5. Democratic socialists need to primary every democrat seat from now till the end of time

    6. KingofGrapes7 on

Do they really think this will save them in the midterms? Trump wont even negotiate in good faith for the December vote, much less think to help them in mid term. And AOC and the like will primary them to hell when they remind which 8 voted to cripple their Healthcare.

If there was ever a time to change your mind its right now.

    7. ello_officer on

Republicans are bullies and democrats are pussies. Bunch of fucking traitors.

    8. Never underestimate the Democrats ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

      How pathetic.

    9. AnAwkwardJedi on

Party polling showed Democratic voters wanted them to hold out and not cave. Polling across the nation showed people blamed Republicans and Trump.

Literally not a single good reason to do this, and so many good reasons to keep fighting. This is the kind of shit that turns people away from the Democratic Party. Fully earning that “do nothing Democrat” nickname right now.

    10. What Democrats are doing is giving up

And putting Republicans on vote record in December voting No to extend subsidies.

And in the end, the subsidies won’t be renewed, screwing over tens of millions of people and putting the entire country through all of this for nothing

….all because these defector Democrats think they can use the Republican vote record to their advantage in the mid-terms.

What a disgrace. An absolute disgrace.

    11. LordSiravant on

It really was all for nothing. This right here…this is why people fucking give up on democracy and accept corruption and autocracy as inevitable endpoints of society. This is why so many people in younger generations have become cynical, nihilistic, and radicalized.

And yet…was it really ever going to end any differently? Republicans made it clear they were completely fine with holding the country hostage indefinitely and didn’t care how much it hurt Americans. Democrats are the ones supposed to actually care about Americans. We always knew who was going to blink first.

It really was a „heads I win, tails you lose“ scenario in Trump’s favor.

    12. Oh so they’ll put the extension to a vote at a later date? This is like being elementary school gullible. You know they are going to vote no in unison. How could you fall for that?

    13. Schmetterlingus on

I’m so happy I’ve never been a member of the Democratic Party. I may vote with them almost all the time but they are the most spineless politicians imaginable

    14. TheMoorNextDoor on

Primary every democrat that voted for this.

Every single one needs to be out of office.

Their time of service is over.

    15. Can the DNC please throw these Democrats under the bus if they plan to run again? The GOP sucks ass in a million ways but at least there’s party solidarity.

    16. Thebestphysique on

This is so frustrating. The pain from the shutdown is now in vain because they may as well have caved 35 days ago. Why can the Democratic Party never stick to their guns when it counts the most.

    17. astrozombie2012 on

Pussy ass bitches just won themselves a fast pass to not getting re-elected.

    18. It’s time for progressives to split off and form their own party. Democrats will never stand up for what is right. If the only result is ensuring democrats never get reelected, maybe they’ll learn their goddamn lesson. Let the country burn under republicans, but don’t let democrats pretend to be moral leaders.

    19. unaskthequestion on

So tired of this, make a stand or don’t.

From what I’ve read it’s a ‚promise‘ to vote on the subsidies ’sometime‘ in December and a CR that will keep the gov open until Jan.

So we go a couple of months and then have another fight. The republicans already got their tax cuts for billionaires and gutted programs the less well off rely on to live.

      The democrats will get nothing.

    20. lifeat24fps on

A pinkie-promise for a vote that on a bill that will never cross 60 votes. Way to fucking go. Oh boy, you showed ‚em.

    21. MyPickleWillTickle on

      >“This legislation will protect federal workers from baseless firings, reinstate those who have been wrongfully terminated during the shutdown, and ensure federal workers receive back pay, as required by a law I got passed in 2019,” Mr. Kaine said in a statement. “That’s a critical step.”

I know I am not the brightest star in the galaxy, but can someone please enlighten me what the fuck he actually accomplished since these firings were illegal and should be reversed anyway, and the backpay for furloughed feds is already guaranteed by a 2019 law?

    22. We need to primary every Democrat who agreed to this. It’s pure cowardice. They got nothing but a promise to hold a vote in the ACA subsidies in December which does nothing because Republicans will just vote no on it. We need a deal that will extend the subsides permanently and to remove work requirements for Medicare and SNAP and that should be the minimum or no deal. These are things that a super majority of Americans want, not just Democrats.

    23. lifeuh_finds_a_way on

Keep in mind that the Dems who are pushing for this are doing this just as they got more leverage – snap benefits were half returned.

Kick these fucks out of the Congress and out of the democratic party. They are Republicans – and it’s never been more obvious than right now.

    24. orsikbattlehammer on

Completely fucking insane. I had not seen the party have this kind of momentum since Trump was elected. And they pissed it away exactly how we expected them to. They’re going to lose in 2026 and we will fall completely into fascism.

    25. The damage these eight have just done to the Democratic party is incalculable.

    26. BotherResponsible378 on

A Republican strategist saw this as a huge problem for the GOP. Said that if it continued into the holiday, the next elections would be an extinction event for the GOP. That they’d be so unpopular that no amount of Gerrymandering could over come it.

And these fucking idiots threw it out.

Democrats have been, and will always be their own worst enemy.

    27. If you’re wondering where the rot is at the heart of the Democratic Party look no further. These people are the reason nothing can ever get done. Whether because they’re too conservative, bad at politics, or just plain stupid, these are the people who let themselves get played time and time again while going home believing they’ve done a good job.

Every single one of them needs to be lose their next primary.

    28. americanspirit64 on

That is it for affordable healthcare. This giving in to Trump is what he wants. There will be no Dec 15th vote. For the first time in two decades I was proud of Democrats, not any longer. I am so sick and tired of voting Democrats, this is my last time I vote for a Democrat, since the first time I voted in 1972. Such cowards. What is worst is how proud they are to be Republican-Lite politicians.

    29. killercurvesahead on

I’m fuckin beside myself right now.

I just called both my Senators (who aren’t on the list), Schumer (who might as well be if he can’t keep them in line), and as a hail mary my Congressperson—begging any of them to use any sway they have to pull those 8 Democrats back over the line or swing any Republicans who might be in the fence.

Anyone else making late desperate calls?
