Of the 23 specific claims in this image, none are accurate representations of accepted religious law. Specifically – 6 claims are outright lies or fabrications, 12 are intentional misrepresentations of complex legal texts, and 5 are distortions of rejected minority opinions. Every point is either invented or maliciously distorted for the sole purpose of promoting anti-Semitism. This kind of shit makes anyone criticizing the state of Israel look like a fool.

This is pretty much bullshit. I was reading the Sanhedrin 58a – 59b sections earlier today because of another post similar to this one, and I was curious if it was actually true or not.

What you have to understand is the Talmud reads like a debate class with multiple Rabbis expressing different points of view and countering each other with scripture, and (at least as far as I’ve seen) it doesn’t tell you what to believe or what argument is true.

Take Sanhedrin 59a, one Rabbi says „A gentile who engages in Torah study is liable to receive the death penalty“ because of such and such verse in the Old Testament. Then another Rabbi chimes in with the opposite take by saying that „gentiles that engage in Torah study are considered the same as High Priests [well-regarded]“. So, you do get terrible stuff being said, but it’s part of a dialogue where its followed up by a much more accepting and inclusive take.

And, again, the Talmud does not tell the reader which point of view is right or wrong–it merely presents arguments of two different Rabbis that are in debate. If you want to see what the Jewish people actually decided to adopt, go take a look at what the Jews decided to codify into law in the Maimonides‘ Torah. In those legal works, the inclusive stances are the ones that were adopted, not the ones in the image.
