An imperialist NATO warship? Protecting Ireland? That can’t be right… they’ll be asking the RAF to patrol the skies next.

The French army and many other EU armies would be in a much better state if companies would not route their profits through Ireland to avoid paying their fair

I suggest Ireland to put a EU minimum corporate rate as a priority of their EU presidency to avoid tax avoidance.

I’m still wondering, is there any news about Ireland investing back into their military forces ? I think they voted a budget for it no ? At some point Ireland was looking at the CAMO program that France has with Belgium and Rafale too.

    4. Maybe you can use some of the money you gain serving as a tax shelter for US megacorps to defend yourselves?

it’s always fascinating to see how security arrangements get negotiated behind the scenes

I don’t understand, Irish people regularly boast about how high their GDP per capita is, why can’t they spend money on their own defense? Isn’t it a bit embarrassing for a country that’s so proud of their own independence?

    7. Before we all kick off about Irish spending:

      > During the recent Danish presidency, France and Germany sent counter-drone teams, including a German anti-aircraft ship, to Copenhagen in response to increased illegal drone activity, which Denmark attributed to Russian actors.

Naturally a French warship would represent excellent – indeed probably over the top – defences.

    8. France and Ireland have had diplomatic and military relationships long before EU even existed

Why do we give countries like Hungary so much shit about what kind of leeches they are to the EU but Ireland gets none? They bring nothing to the union, don’t even have their own defense forces and rely on UK and EU and are a tax haven for big tech companies.

Can’t we ask the Spanish? Historically they’ve helped us a lot more than France

What tf do they think is going to happen that a war ship would help with? Russian land invasion of Kerry??

It is shocking how little thought or money Ireland has been prepared to put into its own defence.

Our new shithead president will probably complain about this and the „military industrial complex“. Thank God its just a ceremonial role

    14. Honestly, i like Ireland, but maybe they should stop being a tax heaven in EU and use that extra money to protect themselves instead on relying on others

Neutrality comes after hundreds of years of in and out conflict. Also remember that every war ends in ceasefire and/or peace

I don’t get why Ireland continually underfunds its armed forces . Given the sheer state of the world these days , anyone wishing to remain neutral needs to have the ability to defend that neutrality.
