Hard to say what was the official mark of communism’s defeat (in Europe), as in Czechoslovakia the Velvet Revolution started a week later and Ceausescu was executed on Christmas.

But the fall of the Berlin Wall is perhaps the most poignant symbol.

More like the defeat of the Russian Empire disguised as communism. Currently it’s rising its ugly head again under the premise of „anti-wokeism“.

Communism is a cancer that should never be allowed to metastasize. My family fled from Communist China, like so many, during the Cultural Revolution; because of the religious persecution of Christians under the CCP.

The CCP learned from the Soviets and emulated their sick system.

Unless you live in the US, where every non-Maga simply has to be a radical far-left communist.

In their ‘minds’ 🙄 communism is everywhere!

I crossed the wall east to west in 1982 having been in the east for a few days.

I suddenly remembered there were such things a colour! 😀

Polish June 89′ was the start of the communism fall. First partly free elections and the Round Table.

I saw Konstantin Kisin explain how people generally only keep two generations back in mind and forget about anything that happened. Those that dont know history are bound to repeat it and those that do know history are bound to watch it being repeated.

Thank God this horrid ideology will never be able to wield such power ever again, at least in Europe. Katyn, Holodomor, gulags, secret police — people who lived under the Soviet yoke won’t forget these things, to much chagrin of American teenager communists on Twitter.

    9. If photos had background music, this one’s would be something from Depeche Mode

    10. Then, Reagan >> Gorbachev

      Now, Putin >> Trump

I always wonder, what is today’s equivalent of the Berlin Wall?

    11. On this day, communists got so butt-fucked, you can hear their whinging to this day…..

And President Regan said: „Mr. Gorbechev, tear down this wall!“ after which he axe kicked the top of the wall so hard that the concrete turned to dust.

Yeah, baddy Communists. Capitalism is working off so well for all of us.

    14. Revolution from within and peaceful at The End. Germans can be proud of this chapter of their history

    15. Technically, it marked the fall of the Soviet bloc and communist Russia, but there’s still plenty of communist countries.

He’s not kidding Antonio…three blows with a sledgehammer and it’s settled

The fall of the Berlin Wall was one of the greatest things to have happened since World War II. Unfortunately, we made some mistakes during reunification, and some of these problems still reverberate today.

    18. Eventually there will hopefully be pictures where Americans are able to tear down the concentration camps, retrieve the bodies of their relatives and loved ones, get justice for what they are witnessing and try to rebuild the nation on that rubble.

Germany / Europe was incredibly lucky when Russia chose to walk away. But the Reddit front page shows the contrast between then and now.

Even today, Russia sends 140,000 men to take Pokrovsk, Ukraine, a mid sized city that most cannot even place on a map. In 1945, they sent 3,000,000 to take Berlin. But in 1989, to the great relief of everybody normal, despite half a century of occupation, they sent 0,000 men to hold onto Berlin.

Europe. You were lucky. You deserve freedom. But so does everyone. Everyone deserves freedom. For a brief moment, people had the freedom to make their choice to not be ruled by imperialists. That moment is gone today. You should help Ukraine win the same fight.

Check out the podcast Winds of Change, some people credit the CIA writing the song “winds of change” and having the scorpions perform at an anti drug festival was a key factor in bringing down the wall itself

He looks like Christer Pettersson, suspected murderer of Swedish prime minister Olof Palme.
