MTG has seen the gaping hole in the side of the Trump Titanic and is trying to get herself a spot on the first lifeboats.

Why not move to vacate Johnson? He got the position by the skin of his teeth. Any opposition is dangerous opposition for the weird little fucker.

I think MTG has a new donor. Someone sleuthier than I could probably parse it out, but I’m 100% sure she got a new income stream from a donor with a different tone

Yeah, but since he won’t, Grijalva should make use of the alternative procedure and have a federal judge swear her in. Then a Johnson gets to explain why he’s blocking the mandate of both a court and the constitution.

Wow this broken clock is getting right more and more often. Still a fucking terrible clock

What a sorry state of affairs for the Republican party when one of the dumbest people in the country has become the voice of reason.

She’s giving him cover to not do it. Saying what people are demanding out loud creates a delay during which people wait to see if Johnson will respond to when she said it, instead of to when everyone else said it weeks ago.

Trump does the same delay tactic with (not) opposing Putin, say what people have been saying for months out loud to make people reset the clock to when Trump said it. Maga says what people want to hear and then do nothing while people wonder if they meant it or not. By the time enough people decide they didn’t mean it, they come up with another delay tactic. Rinse and repeat.

And there you have it. She was a Q-Anon true believer who genuinely bought into the conspiracy theories about Democrat pedophile rings, got a look at the Epstein Files, and realized just who was in it, and now because she was a true believer instead of a political opportunist, she’s railing against the people protecting the pedophiles.

I’d still be suspicious of her, but she seems to have gotten a peak behind the curtain, wasn’t pleased with what she saw, and now she realizes exactly why Johnson won’t swear in Grijalva.

Edit: My take anyway. I haven’t seen enough to support this being a revenge tour yet, I’d expect her to be more vocal if it was something petty like that (because we have seen how the GOP acts when they’re being petty about something), this unfurling thing with her reads more like her evaluating her views in real time (which can be a slow process).

Fuck MTG and her pivot. Just because she’s saying things I agree with doesn’t mean I trust or respect her.

She’s an opportunist, and as soon as the wind changes again, she’ll change right along with it. Her only guiding principle, like so many in the MAGA Universe, is „I should get the things that I want.“

If she really wants to be taken seriously as a moderate, then she needs to show accountability and attrition for all the horrible things she’s said and done. Without that, she’s just trying on a new face to get the power she craves.

    11. I want to make this clear. I know MTG is an insincere careerist.

But holy shit, her political instincts are way better than I thought even 6 months ago. She’s savvier actor than the entire Dem establishment and its consultant class combined right now. Jesus Christ, MTG is smarter than our leadership, we’re fucked.

    12. There should be no need to swear in anyone. Once they’re elected, they hold the position.

Swearing in was a just a nice-to-have thing which now they’ve weaponized. Fuck that.

No more swearing in. It serves no purpose.

    13. nopeofnopenope on

He may have said something else recently, but currently Johnson is not denying that she is eligible to be sworn in, but is using an excuse that the chamber is not in session. She could offer to remove this heavy burden from him so that she has further standing in her current court case that he is in violation of his constitutional obligation to provide representation (with all rights granted to the district). More noise, more pressure.

I will have a stroke if she just straight announces that she’s switching parties…

    15. Now you know why the word Johnson is a commonly used term in the US for a prick

    16. I dislike MTG tremendously. But holy cow she’s figured out how to play this game. When Trump refused to endorse her for a Senate run, she’s shifted her entire persona right as the Republicans are squirming under the pressure of their decisions. I’ll be a bit surprised if she doesn’t come out of this on top.

Every time an article promoting MTG gets thousands of upvotes here, an angel splatters against turf.

    18. Johnson is holding off until they can fill a vacant seat in Tennessee with a Republican to counter Grijalva’s vote.

Is MGT actually a smart person, who had been brainwashed by repubs and now sees the light? I wouldn’t be surprised if she crosses isle soon
