Quite an interesting scenario, surprised never really paid attention to the movie synopsis before but it’s painfully obvious how such tech could be used as a tool of war. Imagine being able to bully people or ruin harvest by altering the climate an area to suddenly make it too cold, too wet, too hot to do what the climate had normally been able to do.
I definitely do notice a trend where humanity is pushing too far in one direction to want to control everything and I get it, these rich people have already proven they can easily control their fellow man, now they want something more challenging, like the Universe itself. It’s easy to manipulate people but imagine the power high one might get from the capability of being able to manipulate the planet to their desire.
Honestly if I was Musk I would much rather see a project like this be pushed onto Mars before sending people off there. I could see a case in which setting up strategic satellites to simulate climate and build an ecosystem that can sustain life would be a remarkable footprint for humanity if we actually achieved planetary colonization on another planet. However we should be painfully aware by now that our desire for comfort definitely outweighs our desire for self-preservation. At the end of the day when technology and dopamine reach levels which max out what one is capable of reaching we begin to stagnate because if we can’t get that high our ancestors got from the past from discovery the world anymore, then what exactly is exciting about going to Mars when we give up all our comforts for something we will never be able to witness ourselves.
True poison of a capitlistic society where we create value from „money“ rather than value from actual work allowing those with no transferable skills to make money and be rich even if they themselves actually provide no value to society.
