totally unsurprising given the list of donors to the presidential campaign included Intuit.

How are some people suppose to pay their taxes, when they don’t even have enough money after bills, to do their taxes?

      Seriously?

    3. silvermoons13 on

are you fucking kidding me. not only are you robbing the working class blind but now this? now we have to pay you so you can continue to steal from us?

Didn’t they open source this on GitHub last year? Or is that dead too?

Congressional Republicans love it that you pay bank fees. Now they want you to go to HR Block or TurboTax to file your taxes when you used to be able to do it for free.

The Trump government is by the billionaires, for the billionaires.

    6. Intuit gives $1m to Trumps inauguration…

IRS gets rid of direct file.

      Bribery much?

    7. Robbidarobot on

Just have to do it the old fashioned way get the instruction book, download the forms and manually fill out the pdfs check calculations, recheck then snail mail it off. As a real fiscal conservative it makes no fiscal sense to pay someone to pay my taxes, even with specific deductions and exemptions. F the entirety of all that.

Hey, MAGA imbeciles, please explain to me how this makes the lives better of the American people. Thx in advance, bozos.

    9. This is a reminder that unless you own a company, then this taxes could be 100% automated by the government. IRS already get the information they need from banks and other government departments.
They already know how much you owe in taxes. They could have sent you pre-filled out document, or just ask you to go online. Just request you verify the information they got on you, and assume they are correct if they don’t hear anything from you.

Why? Because that’s how my yearly taxes are done. I get an SMS + E-mail that my taxes forms are filled out. I go to our own version of IRS’s webpage, and log in to verify everything. I only do it to see if I have paid too much or too little.

US is deathly allergic to any system that benefits the average citizen. If it doesn’t involve politicians getting yearly bribes the government isn’t interested.

    10. Seems pretty obvious when DOGE deleted the source for it and fired the devs in February

Making it harder for Americans to do simple shit so your rich donors can make more money.

      Fucking Trump

    12. TheComplimentarian on

You know who *always* has to pay someone to do their taxes? Rich people.

Is it really *fair* that the poors get something the rich don’t get to have? /s

Why make it easier on American citizens when we can make it easier on corporations, right MAGA?

    14. Necessary_Scheme_347 on

MAGA would rather deepthroat the billion dollar middle man corporations than dare to admit the government made something better

    15. Looks like I’ll be offering to help people file for free in my town this year, again. 100% going to take efforts to identify and filter out magats and not help the people that voted to do this to us.

    16. Cool_Parfait_1348 on

Trump said he doesn’t want to hear about affordability, so this tracks.

Why are we still paying Federal income tax? The government is shut down, rights are being infringed upon, and the president is ignoring the law.

    18. Perhaps we should defer our federal taxes until 2028? No taxation without representation; and it certainly feels like our dollar/spending habits is potentially the only collateral we have left as an American people….

    19. They are doing everything they can to hurt the poorest americans from every angle simply out of spite

Cash App Taxes is free filing for state and federal.

Freetaxusa is free federal, 15$ state filing.

      Fuck Intuit and TurboTax.

Anything and everything to make life more difficult for working people.

    23. ScarInternational161 on

Since turbo tax gave to his inauguration, this doesn’t surprise me at all.

    24. Thatsa_spicy_meatbal on

Looks like I’m either doing taxes on paper or not at all next year. I’m not paying a mega corporation a single penny to file my taxes for me

    25. CombinationLivid8284 on

When historians look back they’ll say this is madness.

The tax code is complex, on purpose, in order to fund an entire industry of tax service providers.

    26. thejesterofdarkness on

Like anyone is going to get a refund if the gov’t stays closed.

    27. You guys deserve better. Even when doing taxes you get scammed.

In Norway and quite a few other countries, „doing“ your taxes is as simple as logging in on the tax authorities website and checking that the information they have is correct and adding in things that you need, for example if you had dividends on stocks or something. Since they have all your information it will automatically give you the correct breaks and benefits.

For a salaried person this process takes like 2 minutes. For someone with a more diverse income it takes maybe max 15 minutes.

It’s not sorcery, there is no reason you guys shouldn’t have it this easy as well.

It’s like every thing you have to use, they have designed it so it can be monetized by private corporations.
