Tbf, he’s counting on MAGA to think, „It isn’t here where I live?!… but maybe where he is, prices are actually down… Cool, I love him and he loves me.“

edit: petition to use a sleeping Trump image for every article…

Nah, those that voted for him is not because of the economy, it is always a cultural war to begin with.

    3. Many are willfully blind. They will be believe whatever he tells them to believe and everything else is fake news.

    4. This is a solved problem and has been for years.

If reality is standing in the way of people believing your lie, you just use the lie to deflect blame instead of deny reality.

So the real question is why Biden and immigrants are increasing grocery prices.

    5. cliffordnyc on

Does he think grocery prices are a mystery to Americans? We are at the stores. We know the prices.

    6. There’s a whole group of MAGA folks who are shielded from this reality. They only consume “news” that tells them what they want to hear, and they don’t operate in the real world enough to know what’s up. My father-in-law is a Trump supporter, but his wife handles all the grocery shopping and finances. He insists everything is fine, but she had to sit down and explain to him recently why she started buying generic brands. He basically just grumbled and complained about his breakfast foods like a toddler until his wife explained why money was tighter. Even then, he’d never blame Trump for it. It’s always someone else’s fault. “Prices went up under Biden, now they won’t go down again.”

      Edit: hit submit by mistake

Just heard a call in on Washington journal echoing big daddy’s claim grocery items and cost of living have NEVER fallen this rapidly.

    8. It’s probably the extra cost of getting the ID he says you need to buy things at the grocery store that is pushing up the cost of food. Ya think?

every administration has to deal with the reality that they better make sure the economy is working for the majority of the population or you’re going to be replaced. people do not have patience or the luxury to wait 10 years to see if your polices will pay off. this will be the downfall of mega. every election is won or lost over economic issues. that’s why trump got re-elected. it’s also why he got the boot when Biden took over.

    10. inteligent_zombie20 on

His inner circle is lying to him and falsifying numbers to make their position look better than it is. He believes the nonsense then when the poll numbers don’t reflect what they are saying and elections don’t support the narrative, they blame the media

    11. Ok_Juice4449 on

His trick is to repeat a lie often enough. Then, he believes it is true and figures his voters will as well.

Donald I know you do not know the price of a banana, but most of us do in fact go to to the grocery store on a pretty regular basis. They have all the prices written right next to the food then the cashier tells you again when you check out. You only have a couple lies (it’s not happening and it’s not my fault) and you picked the wrong one here.

    13. joekerr9999 on

Trump announced that inflation and affordability has been solved so that makes it so. Even republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene can see that prices are up. She actually goes into grocery stores and shops. Trump just relies on the yes men lies of the sycophants around him. His lying ability will be supremely tested now.

    14. Holiday_Bullfrog_858 on

President Trump admitted that talking about groceries during campaign worked in his favor so kept talking. American people believed.

    15. The added expense comes from the cost of having a cashier checking everyone’s ID.

    16. I have friends who are definitely fooled. One of the primary characteristics of being MAGA is the ability to listen to Trump and not think critically.

    17. Minimum-Map9340 on

The primary function of the federal electorate at this point in U.S. history is protect and advance the interests of the wealthy. These billionaires/millionaires essentially OWN the consumers.

Understand though that to change our current economic system you have to change entire social & cultural paradigms to radically change what we value, our consumptive habits, to radically change what it means to be „successfully“ and finally dispense with capitalism – a system built upon extreme inequality thus unsurprisingly extremely disproportionate political influence

    18. But but don’t you understand? It’s just part of the MAHA. It’s shitty food that is expensive. Eggs are way down. Groceries (not a common word, but it should be) is also down. Like Caviar, Lobster,Clams and that wonderful Kobe Beef. The essentials. Also the best wine has gone down. So why are the masses complaining? They could be eating cake! Ungrateful people, he has stopped wars. He has made the stock marked the most profitable of all time. So all of us should be happy. We all have our portfolios going through the roof! People in all states have it way better than under that slimy sleepy fella.

Another day another play ran from the Project 2025 playbook.

Beginning on page 295 discusses cutting farm subsidies and SNAP.

    22. “I’m starting to think that he doesn’t actually care about the cost of living.”

Starting to? This is the American electorate in a nutshell. We’ve been living with this guy for 10 years and he’s never cared one iota about the cost of living. He’s never had a clue about it.

But people are just waking up to this? That’s insane.

    23. JealousAd1350 on

It’s $7 for a bag of chips at my local store. I know stupid thing to use for price comparison but these bags used to be $4.99. Getting fruit now is like cutting out a tooth.

    24. guyincognito121 on

Virtually everybody here is making the same mistake. Yeah, MAGA will find a way to pretend it’s not true or just ignore it. But they don’t matter. Their mind will not change. What matters is those in the middle who could go either way, or who will only vote one was but may or may not show up to vote depending on how good or bad things are. Those people are much more in touch with reality and this kind of thing will absolutely influence their decisions.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be REDUCED to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Even if Trump went to a grocery store and was shown the prices, it would mean nothing to him. He has no idea about the value of money

    27. CU_Tiger_2004 on

I’ve seen survey results where people were asked if their groceries are cheaper, higher, or about the same and a significant chunk of people said their groceries are cheaper since the election. Anybody who actually buys groceries knows just about everything is more expensive.

It’s like everything just became 5$ or more lately. A loaf of bread, 5$. Cookies, 5$. 2 liter soda creeping near 5$

I work in a blue collar mostly conservative field and yes his base is still 100% fooled. For everytime I hear „americans are waking up to trump!“ I hear my coworkers talking about the 3rd reich twice as much goddamnit
