I am really amazed that Eurovision, something that was nothing more than a small carrot to entice European broadcasters to get their broadcast engineers to stop doing weird proprietary shit such that content could only reliably be exchanged on film has had this staying power and cultural relevance.
No, we’re really not. They don’t even show Eurovision on the CBC. You have to watch it on Youtube, or occasionally the cable TV channel that specializes in content for Italian-Canadians. Hardly anyone has even heard about it outside of the gay community (likely the reason for its inclusion in the federal budget) and diasporas of the countries that compete.
