Middleswarth BBQ chips are elite. Snacking backbone of many a family picnic in my childhood
Had no idea Snyder’s was an American company! Used to love the jalapeño pretzel pieces. Seriously addictive and unbelievable with a beer.
Nicely done map. I’ve only heard of half of them. A map of sweets would be interesting to see, too: Hershey, Tastycake, etc.
Hartley’s Potato Chips in Lewistown is making sad noises.
My hometown! 😁 🔔 🌲
You can add Pepperidge Farm / Goldfish in Denver. Also Cape Cod, Late July, and Kettle chips are made in Hanover
If Benzel’s had a wider distribution, you’d have another pretzel company.
Utz and Gibbles? CHECK
Not going to mention Tasty Cake or Hersheys?!??
Where is Gibbles?
I’m used to seeing many of these brands in my SE Pennsylvania supermarket snack food aisles. It’s sad for me when visiting other parts of the US and mostly see national brands like Lays. Good pretzels are particularly hard to find outside PA.
Aunty Anne’s is the only one I didn’t know was PA.
You should Add Tastykakes for sure
I haven’t seen a Bon Ton bag of chips in years. Completely forgot about that brand.
Now add the chocolate makers!
The Herr’s potato chip factory is a great place to take kids if you’re in the area!
My personal red hot potato chip rankings:
1) Gibble’s
2) Martin’s
3) Herr’s
4) Utz
Mind you, Virginia-based Route 11 (Mama Zuma’s Revenge) might rank even ahead of Gibble’s red hots; it’s a close contest.
Utz Ripple are far far better than Lays Ruffle.
Now do root beer! (Michigan-Chicago-Minnesota)
Ever since movjngbere i don’t think I have ahd a Lay’s brand anything since. No need too. It does stink when I have to travel and the snack food everywhere else is so poor.
Does anyone know if any of these facilities do public tours?
Pop tarts are made in that area too
Lesser known but Keystone Snacks in Easton.
One thing is certain. Snyder of Berlin is better than Snyder of Hanover.
Caution as a former Pennsylvanian who moved. Once you try middlesworth chips (socially the bbq) there’s no going back. It becomes a drug addiction and no other chips will taste as good. And as far as I know you can only find them in middle PA.
Martins are a favorite for me.
Great map! Unique, informative, simple.
We have Frito-Lay plants here as well
Keep going; it doesn’t stop at the state line. Nabisco’s headquarters are in East Hanover, NJ, which perfectly fits in with the belt. And if you follow other commenters‘ advice about sweet snacks, we’ve also got Mars, Inc. with their headquarters in Newark and Hackettstown.
I’ve only heard of three of those, and I grew up in an adjacent state.
Utz are my favorite chip brand, and especially their Dill Pickle Chips
Utz are my favourite potato chips
Top The Tater & Old Dutch
Sorry what’s snyders of Berlin?
Snyder’s of Berlin and Middleswarth are the best BBQ chips on the market.
So all this time in my life if I wanted to drive up and visit these company factories all I had to do was just drive up I-83.
Been to the Utz factory
As someone who no longer lives in PA, I really miss Martin’s kettle jalapeno chips. They are the best I’ve ever had.
I miss Troyer’s in Waterford near Erie, PA. They were bought out a few years ago.
The factory tour at Herr’s is great! You get chips right out of the machines. Utz lets you look into the factory from above.
Aside from Snyder’s and the Auntie Pretzel place, I’ve never heard of any of these
I should note that if Auntie Anne’s (soft pretzels) is on there, Philly Pretzel Factory should be too.
Isn’t there a pretzel factory in Lititz?
i’ve only seen Snyders of Hanover in my life, and was wondering why it says „of hanover“. the „Snyder of Berlin“ makes it make sense now
Nice map. RIP Troyer Farms. I still can’t get over Utz buying them and shuttering them just to create shelf space.
Middleswarth and Utz are absolute, elite level chippos. Also Snyder of Berlin mondo hard pretzels.
Wawa HQ deserves an honorable mention!
Chester Heights, PA
